MissR2FJ, finally I see someone take up the idea of putting limb risers on an FJ. I figured if my ARB bumper finally came in I'd be the first to show off some old-tech solutions. So, praytell, did you build your own, or was this a product you purchased? Particularly the mounting brackets for the roofrack and bullbar.
Thanks!
Chris
Nope its all a build it yourself kind of thing. Trial and error, lots of trips to the hardware store. I haven't seen anyone build a kit for it, because there are so many endless combos of bumper and roofracks out there it would be impossible. I initially did it without the springs but we were having issues with the wire constantly coming loose...added the springs and we haven't had to mess with it once.

Mike reminded me of another quick update that we haven't done yet...laptop mount!
We went with the RAM no-drill mount for the FJ.
I'm really surprised at how comfortable it is to ride with this, it really doesn't take up much leg room and I don't think either of us has ever felt it was in the way. Only downside I can see so far is that you can't close the lid of the laptop all the way because of how the mount grips to it. You can close it far enough to get it out of your way however, or you can always swing it to the middle over the console if you get too annoyed with it.
We are using one of Josh's old laptops...Portable One SR2 with Delorme Topo and Ozi Explorer software, with a usb GPS puck mounted to the top. We also have the internets wherever we go via a usb connection to Josh's Moto Q Global cell phone.
Sweet! Thanks so much for the photos! I just came across this last night and I didn't realize you had it I was just curious .... if you had a passenger riding with you, is it quick to disassemble? or does it fold up? How does that work if you don't mind me asking?

Well generally its either Josh or I in the passenger seat unless I happen to pick up my mom....its pretty easy it take the part that holds the laptop out, you just unscrew the top part and that whole arm goes away. The pole that holds the arm (next to the center console) and the part that mounts to the seat remains. I'm pretty lazy though so I usually just swing the whole thing over the the center so its not right in your face.
If you want to remove the whole thing you will need some tools.

You can remove the top portion, but you'll always have the lower tube right next to your leg. We leave it all the time in the vehicle with us and although it does cut down on some room it's placed pretty well out of the way. We're both near 6' as well.
If you wanted to completely remove it you'd need to carry tools with you to remove the bolts. It's not difficult really. Two bolts to the seat frame can completely remove it.

Finally, may I present to you.....THE DON BOX!!!
We removed our rear double seat and built a box in it's place. All of our recovery gear, tools, and Pett toilet fit nicely here.
In the rear our Engel is now mounted down to the slide lock for safety, we have a slot on the side to fit our chairs, along with a drawer and cubby box for all of our kitchen supplies and dry goods.
We have so much room in our drawer now I'm not sure what to put in it!! Time to go to the grocery store...
Again a huge thanks to Don (puulboy) for basically building this system for us....we just stayed out of his way and put on the finishing touches!

It's time for an update. I've redone the lighting on R2FJ pretty significantly. First up is three vision x XIL-80s 6" led bars. One for each side and one to the rear. They are 1440 lumens running at 2 amp. Very low power with extremely high output for the size. I hope to get pictures of them at night when I do the full review on them.
Here's what comes in the box. You get what you pay for here. Awesome wiring harness (that I didn't use) and amazing quality. The light housings are all metal.
one on the back
and one on the side
Next up is the baja rack lighting bar with our new baja RTT rack. I threw in 4 checker auto HIDs. These suckers rock for the price. IMO they really can't be beat. Show me 7" HIDs at $100 ANYWHERE. The quality and construction is much better than you would expect.
I could figure out no other way to get that much power to the roof without drilling a hole. So that's what I did. Definitely scary "point of no return" kind of feeling, but not as difficult as some might think.
