Disruptor's Silver FJ Built Up So far...

For all of you that don't know me, I have been spending more time on this forum lately and posting finally. I have been a member for a while and would drop in to read a few things here and there. Well I just graduated from ASU with a degree in Meteorology and Climatology basically and am on a look out for a full time job. Right now I drive a school bus part time and clean pools. It pays the bills and then a little some, but that will change when my loan payments start.

To my FJ. I bought a Silver FJ back in October 21st of 2006, the day right before my 23rd Birthday. I had a 1997 Camaro that I pumped a ton of money into before deciding to sell it and get something that I wouldn't want to put money into. Hah, well that was a joke! I met John Goodman and things changed. He was the first one I met on the Trail the day that he purchased his rig and was taking it for a trial. Thanks to him, I made it through all the parts of the Crown King Trail. If it was not for him, I most likely would have turned around due to the fact that I was pretty new to four wheeling. I had only been out once before and knew only when and where to use my 4 LO. I was taught how to use my rear lock and learned what it did. I had no clue but was glad I had the option.

From there on, Four wheeling has been my passion and something I really shouldn't be spending money on. So here it is, My beloved FJ from the beginnings all the way to today. Bare with me due to the fact that I need to get up early and I will try to post as many as I can and make this story complete.

The first day with the FJ...

This was my first time out four wheeling with it...

Up at the Dunes was a blast...

And where my passion finally started...

Heres John AKA Belly Doc and his brand new FJ that day...

Then the damage came before the mods at Marteniz Canyon.. Proudly did it in my Stock FJ with John.. although I would have been stuck there if it weren't for him. I got stuck and high centered probably about 3 times. 1 of those times we had to manually get me unstuck which took about 3 hours and 2 hi lift jacks and a ton of rocks. There were no pictures of it getting unstuck because we were just too busy.

and officially stuck here...

And heres the twin carnage from the Luge...
His..

Mine... I even have duck tape holding in my light... haha...

LET THE MODS BEGIN!!!!

Finally my first mod came in the spring of 2007 when John needed to get rid of his wheels for some 35s, I just needed a lift kit. So I made my first mistake and bought a Sky Jacker 3 inch lift kit.. a cheap one but I do like the sway stabalizers in the rear with it.

This picture is of the day I did a trial run.. can't see much done here.

The Sway Links in the rear... (note: this is a picture just recently taken.. had different shocks back then though)

Sky Jacker Springs... not bad...

Finally with the new wheels.... Pro Comps 33' Mud Terrains. They work. Bead Locked wheels as well. All thanks to John!

The hi lift mounted... and wheels and carnage...

Lift in action.. and indeed talk about some articulation...

the other side

SO the jacker lift worked good but later the bumps in the regular dirt road would not let the shocks live their life.....

Thats it for now.. MORE LATER!! That was only up until last march! Much more to be added! Thanks guys!

Nice post and rig. It looks like Jon took you under his wing. I can't think of a better man to learn from. I'll be watching your build as it progresses.

Re: Disruptor's Silver FJ Built Up So far...

So I left off at the end of March 2007 Most of the pictures were taken today but I am going on in chronological order as I had put them on.

My next mod did not come until August I believe which was about the time I recieved my last loan for my last semester... hrmm I think there is a correlation there.

The mod was a TRD CAI... enjoyed it and how it made the engine sound. It was on for some time.

September 2007 Mods

Someone backed into me at the Walmart and took off.. I came out of the store and my back tire was dented in. My rear door was a bit tweaked as well. So I got it fixed and the body shop fixed my badge of honor which I had. It was gone and my truck was almost a virgin again. No worries though, my bumper has some nice badges on it!

Ok.. By this time my Sky Jacker Nitro shocks had been leaking and I couldn't not engage in much four wheeling until this month.

Even Walker Coil Overs and body armor

I purchased some evans and new skids all from All Pro off road. My stock skid plate got in the way when I put on the bigger tires when turning due to the fact that it was a bit bent in towards the wheel well from other adventures.

Coil Overs

Armor

Armor

More armor

and more..

Re: Disruptor's Silver FJ Built Up So far...

October 2007

Fire Extinguisher Installed... Apologize for the shadow...

Installed rear even walker shocks.. see previous pictures.

AND THE BIG PROJECT THAT TOOK FOREVER!!!!

ALL PRO OFF ROAD ROOF LIGHT BAR

I came to this decision that I needed some extra lights. Looking into the costs of it all, I decided that roof lights would be the cheap way to go since I couldn't afford an ARB bumper... well it probably ended up costing me about 3/4s that price. I did the bar, some of the wiring and lights install but I had trouble getting the wires ran. I would have bought the ARB bumper if I had know it would cost me what it did now.

At first I tried using the stock wiring harness provided... They burnt up.

Then I had to re wire it. With little to no times on my hands and many hours put in to the set up, I took it to AZ auto master.. my friendly mechanics and my trusty off road tech took about 8 hours finishing the wire and thankfully charged me for only 4 hours worth.

The lights are Daylighters 4 inch so they would fit with the ALL Pro Air dam. The 100 watt lights really kick ass at night. I needed a big relay, so I found the dick Cepek 700 Watt Relay, this thing is HUGE!!!

Heres the pics....

The finished product...

The wiring job... (recent picture.. took off air dam... will explain later)

The Dick Cepek RELAY

and finally the Auxillary light switches...

December 2007

CB installed and Bandi mount

I finally decided to put a CB on and used the famous all in one cobra unit. Heres the pics of everything instead very neatly and everything tucked away.

CB mounted

The Bandi mount

The CB connection

I ran the coaxial wire along the inside wall and down the driver side door sill. I runs all inside the vehicle.

Re: Disruptor's Silver FJ Built Up So far...

January 2008 Mods

FourTrek Roof Tool Mounts...

Gibson Exhaust

Banged up after its first time out

GPS Mount for Magellan

I was ready to go to California for ALL PROs Toyota Jamboree. My gas mileage there was awful. Got about 15 mpg both ways. I did have a lot of gear but my main concern was my AIR DAM.

So I took it off and sawed off the mount.

I bent it straight as well, so no worries with aerodynamics..

Then I finally took a look at my TRD CAI... it was filthy so filthy.. which was another reason my mileage was bad. So I decided to clean it using a K&N kit.. bad idea. MAF sensor light was tripped by the oil on the TRD filter... I was pissed. SO I sold the damn thing and went to the stock box again and bought a throttle body spacer after reading much about it.

TBS

The brackets that shift the stock box mounts

Next, I ordered a Pre Cleaner Cyclone from the Dealership and installed it..

Finally got some vent shades shortly after...

Received my Unichip finally and placed it behind the glove box.

This is the Flash box which goes down into near the door sill

It sits behind this.. and is tucked down nice and tight and does not rattle at all.

February 2008 Mods

Finally got a Scan Gauge the other day...

Sorry it’s hard to see.. but me wire goes right down into the window sill here and is hidden nicely.

CUSTOM MOD....

So I thought long and hard about this recently.. it was very hard to depart from the TRD CAI... but I did. Now that I have the pre cleaner, I didn't want to get rid of it and stick with the TRD CAI.. because it doesn't keep my engine clean enough. The secondary filter on my truck is filthy because I know it’s doing its job. But I went with a pro dry filter that I hope works better than my K& N and with the pre cleaner on there,

I decided to cut out the secondary air filter and WOW!!!.. it’s like having my TRD CAI back. The problem is there is no cheap replacement for this.. no easy way to clean it.. so I popped it out and glued in the frame because I broke it and realized that the main air filter doesn’t fit as tight in there.

Here’s the pics of what I did... and what the secondary filter looks like.

Dirty dirty!

The stock air box with no secondary filter..

The secondary air filter and its inside parts... wow.. talk about restricted air flow.

Charcoal pellets inside the secondary air filter for emissions..

Fixed the frame back inside and glued the fuzz that was left just to make sure none enters the engine

And that’s it so far... I will keep this updated better. It will be a while before I get my next additions unless I get a high paying job soon or win the lottery.
