Yes I am using the stock struts. The ride is good with less nose diving.
For the grip on the sliders I used a 2" wide strip of grip tape with adhesive on one side. I got it from Marshall's industrial Hardware. It has a larger grip pattern similar to rhino liner or line-x. I just cut out semi-circles where the crossbars are and rounded the corners.
