The resident is kind of beat up, which is unfortunate. Wired fence lined the house and is very distracting to the eye . I was running short on time so didn't get inside and explore.
Arriving at the mine!
At the entrance, you can feel a very distinct temperature change. It's easily 20-25 degrees cooler! Lots of people left their mark...
Kind of creepy...
That was a fun Friday run . I don't usually travel alone, but I didn't really have a choice this time. Guess most of you work on Fridays .

Ahwww, Burro Schmidt. that place just keeps getting more and more rundown looking. I remember a few years ago the house was standing and looked great like a little museum.

It's a terrible shame. I've researched the trail and all the pics in the books looked so much better then appeared in person. It looked like people have been trying to take stuff from the house. It's run down and a little trashy. The tunnel itself has also suffered. The rails use to extend much further out but looks like that too had been stolen. When I first arrived at the houes, I didn't know I was already there.

I was out there about 2 years ago after the place closed down and some vandals had seriously thrashed the place. It was all fenced off and stuff was everywhere scattered like a dump. It's a shame when people are even tearing out the old tracks of the mine.
Last week, I took a little time off for a family vacation. Invited sister and her husband. Also invited my parents. Headed out through I-40 into Flagstaff and finally Sedona! While it was 100 degrees in L.A., it was 110+!!! No problems though, just crank up the AC and all is well. Truly enjoyed just able to go on a long trip. Stayed in Flagstaff the first night and drove around town. On the 2nd day, we headed into Sedona. I thought it was dry in L.A., but Sedona takes it another level.
The place is kind of strange. It's like a town inside a national park. I couldn't figure out how they were able to built houses where they were built but it was cool . Gorgeous views everywhere.
Before the trip, I was hoping I can do some wheeling. I was concerned that I may have to travel a bit before getting to the trail because I didn't want to leave the other car behind (sister, brother in law, and parents). As it turned out, there were many trails that were literrally minutes from town. It's like a web of trails, but all emanent from the town. Very convenient. .
Here's a shot of Coffee Pot. It's actually not far behind a Safeway store.
The town is under heavy construction. There were very few traffic lights. Most of the traffic controls were roundabouts. Took me while to get use to those. It really keeps the speed down. At any time of the day, you can spot one of those famed Pink Jeeps. They were everywhere. Nice guys. Exchanged quite a few waves with them for the next few days.

While the other car was checking in, I was able to take my family on a "scenic" tour . Sure made a turn on Soldier Pass and check out some homes. Hmm, a dirt road? That was Soldier Pass trail. We also did Tea Cup. Both trails are very short but the scenery was terrific. It also offered some fun spots.
We found a couple of shiney things next to the half dried up pools.
It's 114 degrees! No idea how long there were there or why. I've never seen silver frogs before.
