Last weekend was the great Land Cruiser get together at Pismo Beach, California. Hundreds of Land Cruisers, FJs, and other Toyotas came out to have a blast on sand. Great time! I got there Saturday at noon just when twelve and a bunch of others were leaving. Drove around the camp area and went straight for the dunes

. I got stuck 10 min. into it. Swampers are terrible on the sand. I was just too lazy to swap them out on Friday.

Thanks to
JOHNWOHN, I was out in a jiffy.
Hear on the radio that Dale was stuck. We found Dale (
AWSMFJ) in the pit and had fun trying to get him out. Recoveries are always fun. Great chance to justify the toys we have.
I've never seen the tides so high. We literraly had to drive through 10 inches of salt water to get to the site. Wasn't happy about that. Suprisingly, the dirt and sand quieted my UCA.

It didn't take long before the sunset. Play a little more on the dunes and a chance to flex out the 50W HIDs. Not too many places to use them, but the dunes were perfect. Met some nice
Vegas FJ folks, the long missed Norcal folks,
Trailbus from AZ, and
FJCamel for the first time.

Of course the Socal friends are the highlight

. The wind was blowing so bad, I was tempted to take out my full face respirator. Everytime I talk, sand would be in my mouth. We roughed it in a Marriott Saturday night.
Got a call from
CADavebert Sunday morning. Somehow he found a hole that he wanted to stuck his family in.

I only wish I was closer, but I was in Santa Maria when he called. Sorry for the wait buddy! fwiw, it was a fun recovery for me.
Butchie, thanks for coming out with me as I know most folks were eager to get home.
Dave, the kids had fun seeing Molly again. You should take her out more often!
On the way out, I got to pull out a F350 dually

. At first he didn't want a tow, but it was obvious he needed one. I sat there and watch him and his embarrassed girl friend struggle with the situation :lurk5:. I won't help unless they wanted it. Finally they decided they need help and came to ask me for it. It was almost better then the time I pulled out a Search and Rescue truck.

Regretfully, Sunday was a short 2 hour stint on the sand. We missed
Gon2srf's trip to Pozo. Would've really like to do that next time.
We left Pismo just after 1pm and had lunch. Took a leisurely drive down south and explored a lot of the coast. Took HWY 1 through Ventura and down through Pt. Mugu and Malibu. Had dinner in San Gabriel and wrapped it up with some boba drinks

. What a great mini vacation!
By the way, Saturday night we found a
great hole in the wall restaurant. Pismo Fish and Chips (505 Cypress), the generic name belies the greatness of the restaurant. Priced right and the portions are HUGE. Fish, clams, scallop, and oysters were all very fresh. Service was prompt and personal. They've been there for 45 years. It's about 3-4 miles North of Grand Ave. so it's pretty easy to get to. Don't miss it next time you head up there!
