Re: Fjamming's "Genie"

Shucks Brent. I'm just glad to be amongst friends. Life has been quite different since the first meet. It has opened up a door in my adventure and formed many new bonds. I've also met some of the most inspirational people through the FJ ownership.

Thanks Vince. There were about 9 of us at the shoot. The magazine covered 6 people. Maybe the others will be in next month's issue or perhaps it was ran last month! In this issue, it was Kode, Cruiserlarry, Yusuke E., Butchie, and myself.

The magazine is almost entirely in Japanese and the one website that I could find for ordering magazine is: ランドクルーザーマガジン<デジタル> -雑誌のネット書店 Fujisan.co.jp. That too is in Japanese. You could run the website through Google Translator.
いなかスイッチ P&Dマガジン ランドクルーザーマガジン|株式会社かぴさまエンターテイメント appears to be for ordering back issues. Magazine is produced by Kapisama Entertainment. 03-3938-5781 (tel for back issues).

I was told that I might be able to find the magazine in Marukai and Mitsuwa markets here in SoCal.

Thanks . It was fun and definitely a great time!

Recently, I've had the chance to finally run John Bull. I've put it off for 3 years. One reason or the other, I was never able to make it. Bigdouggiedoug put a run together recently and I was glad to be a part of it. John Bull is considered the hardest "known" trails in Big Bear.

In anticipation of the run, I swapped out the MTRs for taller but skinnier Super Swamper LTBs. I've ran the LTBs before, but have been running the MTRs in favor of better fuel economy and ride comfort. The LTBs are aggressive, loud, and very strong. 4 ply sidewalls and big lugs were perfect for the big rocks at John Bull. Pressure was set to 11-13 for the 4 tires.

One thing I've noticed was there was a lot less sudden slipping. It's also much easier to get up on a rock as the skinny tire seem to have more pressure per inch. The soft compound felt like erasers.

I've been running the FJ without front swaybars for a while now. It was ok with the MTRs, but with LTBs the ride through long sweepers can be hairy. It sometimes feel like the FJ walks sideways. I think I'll keep the LTBs on a little big longer (got a find some hard trails to hit in the mean time ) before switching back to MTRs. I get almost 2mpg better with the MTRs.

Re: Fjamming's "Genie"

Last weekend was the great Land Cruiser get together at Pismo Beach, California. Hundreds of Land Cruisers, FJs, and other Toyotas came out to have a blast on sand. Great time! I got there Saturday at noon just when twelve and a bunch of others were leaving. Drove around the camp area and went straight for the dunes . I got stuck 10 min. into it. Swampers are terrible on the sand. I was just too lazy to swap them out on Friday. Thanks to JOHNWOHN, I was out in a jiffy.

Hear on the radio that Dale was stuck. We found Dale (AWSMFJ) in the pit and had fun trying to get him out. Recoveries are always fun. Great chance to justify the toys we have.

I've never seen the tides so high. We literraly had to drive through 10 inches of salt water to get to the site. Wasn't happy about that. Suprisingly, the dirt and sand quieted my UCA. It didn't take long before the sunset. Play a little more on the dunes and a chance to flex out the 50W HIDs. Not too many places to use them, but the dunes were perfect. Met some nice Vegas FJ folks, the long missed Norcal folks, Trailbus from AZ, and FJCamel for the first time. Of course the Socal friends are the highlight . The wind was blowing so bad, I was tempted to take out my full face respirator. Everytime I talk, sand would be in my mouth. We roughed it in a Marriott Saturday night.

Got a call from CADavebert Sunday morning. Somehow he found a hole that he wanted to stuck his family in. I only wish I was closer, but I was in Santa Maria when he called. Sorry for the wait buddy! fwiw, it was a fun recovery for me. Butchie, thanks for coming out with me as I know most folks were eager to get home.

Dave, the kids had fun seeing Molly again. You should take her out more often!

On the way out, I got to pull out a F350 dually . At first he didn't want a tow, but it was obvious he needed one. I sat there and watch him and his embarrassed girl friend struggle with the situation :lurk5:. I won't help unless they wanted it. Finally they decided they need help and came to ask me for it. It was almost better then the time I pulled out a Search and Rescue truck. Regretfully, Sunday was a short 2 hour stint on the sand. We missed Gon2srf's trip to Pozo. Would've really like to do that next time.

We left Pismo just after 1pm and had lunch. Took a leisurely drive down south and explored a lot of the coast. Took HWY 1 through Ventura and down through Pt. Mugu and Malibu. Had dinner in San Gabriel and wrapped it up with some boba drinks . What a great mini vacation!

By the way, Saturday night we found a great hole in the wall restaurant. Pismo Fish and Chips (505 Cypress), the generic name belies the greatness of the restaurant. Priced right and the portions are HUGE. Fish, clams, scallop, and oysters were all very fresh. Service was prompt and personal. They've been there for 45 years. It's about 3-4 miles North of Grand Ave. so it's pretty easy to get to. Don't miss it next time you head up there!
