THE GEEK by zelig2

I figure I've done enough to at least start a build-up thread. I'll keep adding to this as time goes on and as the wife doesn't kill me. The name THE_GEEK comes from my license plate and the fact that I'm a geek. I'll keep the most current picture in the first post for reference.

Future mod goals:
Dual Battery Kit from cruiserlarry at DirtyParts (already bought)
Suspension Upgrade via W/E Coil Overs
Rear Bumper from Expedition One
Auxiliary Fuel Tank from MAF
Front Winch from Superwinch
External Antenna for my CB
Skids

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

I hunted and hunted for a minimal FJ around me with no luck. All the dealerships around me would say, if you want that we could "order" one for you from Toyota and in about 9 weeks you might get what you want. Screw that. So I did my internet shopping that I'm so good at and found that the South East distribution network go a few stripped down FJs that we never could get up here. I located Toyota of Wilmington and worked with a guy over there to secure one that I found was coming in to port soon. Flew down, stayed with some friends for a weekend and picked up the brand new 2007 FJ Cruiser with convience package, rear lockers and side airbags.

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

Came home and installed new tires right away. I already had the tires waiting for me at Discount Tire Co. Got the BFG A/T KOs 265/70R17 for all five wheels. I had them road ballance them and add the lifetime ballancing. Also, I put the white lettering on the inside so I could keep the vehicle looking as black as possible. I kept the steelies as I found no reason to upgrade the rims at this point. Maybe I'll get some beadlocks from Walker Evans later but that's much further down the line. Probably after I've worn these tires out (40k miles) so I can get larger tires.

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

I had purchased Expedition One sliders from the group buy before I got the FJ home. They were waiting for me when I drove up. For how many bolts these had I have no fear putting lots of weight on them or lifting the vehicle from them.

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

I bought my FJ without a roof rack because I wanted to add my own later in time. I enjoyed the look of the FJ without a hat but wanted a place to load up stuff. I really liked the Gobi Stealth as it was a low profile roof rack. That helps me get into my own garage plus any city parking structures. It nicely follows the curve of the roof and with it's little rear ladder allows me to get up on top of the FJ. The top bars work with all the Yakima accessories which is a bonus as well. I found the best price for the Stealth at Trail Duty. I put up the roof rack with the help of a friend in a short amount of time.

Two Yakima Sprocket Rocket bike mounts fit perfectly on top:

After driving around for a month with the Gobi Stealth roof rack I felt like I was going deaf. I read about how if you installed lights in the proper locations it would reduce the wind noise. I found a set of PIAA 1500XT lights for the front. I chose two driving lights in the center and two fog lights on the edges. I don't plan on using the fog lights as fog lights but to help widen out my visibility on the sides. With the lights in the front the noise went back to as if there was no roof rack. A much improved ride.

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

The next goal was to find a good front bumper. After working with Expedition One on my sliders I thought I'd put them on the list of possible canidates. In the end I went with them as I liked their design and functionality the best. I had a friend from work come over and we got it installed in a few hours. I haven't added the front fog lights yet. I'm waiting to install my dual battery kit so I can have everything on a separate circuit.

Re: THE GEEK by zelig2

Yesterday it was nice out so I installed the rear hitch. I'm going out this weekend and need a bike holder for 4 bikes with a canoe on the top. Since I can't use my Yakima sprocket rockets I had to do something else. A friend has the bike holder and all I needed to do was get the rear hitch. I originally didn't get a hitch as I wanted (and still want) to get a rear bumper and didn't know which hitch would be compatible. Luckily for me the Expedition One rear bumper that is under works integrates the stock rear hitch. So I ordered one from Toyota of Dallas for a good price and installed the hitch while we had a freak day of 60+ degrees outside.

Very nice build so far! Isn't black beautiful? I am very jealous, so far my mods only include my wheels and tires. Keep us updated!
