I'd pay to ride in your rig, Sol... but then I'd expect the destination to be more of your favorite spots in the wine country.

Man, that rig is still amazing every time I see pics of it. It is absolutely astonishing in person too, drives wonderful!

Can't wait to wheel with you in CO.

I take it as you enjoyed your visit to the wine country? Has your wife decided where in the wine country she is going to open her new restaurant? Can you imagine driving up to Chateau Montelena in my FJC. People would run in the opposite direction screaming.

You realize that you are one of the privileged few that has driven it. I think only about 4 people have driven it since the swap. I've done another round of shock valving since you drove it and it rides even better now. I also have some new rear leafs coming which should make it ride better as well. Looking forward to CO and UT wheeling, but the drive out there is going to suck!

Yup and I'm so not looking forward to it. I think I'll have to teach my 9 y/o how to drive along the way to make it interesting.

Re: Project SAC'D FJC - Phase II

I had Don at FC Fabrication build me this very cool swingout tire carrier. I already had the sexy Demello-Offroad rear bumper and I had Don build a custom carrier that uses a 4x4Labs heavy duty (rated at 7500 lbs) spindle for the hinge. The tire carrier hold 3 jerry cans or a small ice chest where the cans are located and it is super stout. I will be relocating my license plate and light to the carrier. The tire is pushed up high and over towards the driver side to make room for everything and ensure that I don't hit my tire or the cans as I drop off ledges. Here are a few pictures.

Don built a cool cam lock mechanism that locks the carrier into place. Lift the arm and unscrew the bolt and the carrier opens up.

Apparently Don was angry and pissed at the world the day he made the tire spin-off... Meat hook anyone?

Cool little rubber snubber to help reduce any deflection.

That looks so good. Any plans to sell the bumper mod? Love the idea of Fuels cans on the back side instead of on top.

The fab shop that I use does only custom work, so you would have to come to CA to get one built. I know Jason @ Demello is going to build a swingout for his bumpers. If you want a premade one you might want to call Demello and get on the waiting list.
