Re: cruzinwyo's---->BLACK BETTY

Thanks a lot! What kind of sand paper and paint did you use? I want to paint my mirrors, grill and door handles but i'm skeptical about how durable it will be.

How did you get the tabs out? I've looked around and i can't seem to figure it out.

thanks.

Go here: Guide to Painting: Bezel, Handles, Front Bumper Wings, Front lower fascia...

There are other threads too if you search.

My mirrors and handles have held up really well! The rear bumper has a couple of flaking parts. I think this is from inadequate sanding in the tight corners as I left it attached when I did all the work on it. So my recommendation to you would be to sand every nook and cranny with a fine grit (400-800). Then tape and paint with Duplicolor rattle can paint.

I removed the Handle/grill/ mirrors and sanded them and that's why they turned out so much better.

Not sure which tabs you are talking about. There are lots on all the different parts that are painted and pulled apart. Search the threads for particular part removal. I just tugged on parts found where it was bound up and then removed the bind (screw, tab, pop-up rivet, etc.)

Ask questions. That's what forums all are about.

Where did you find the Duplicolor paint? The only place I have found is online at AutoBarn.com

Did you find it at a big box retailer? Or did you have to go to a specialty auto store?

THANKS!

AutoZone and Napa and Checker carry the paints.

Went out early this morning before sunrise to take some pics of the departing storm that hammered us all night long.

Clouds are rare in AZ. When they come I grab my Canon!

Re: cruzinwyo's---->BLACK BETTY

Made a brief 3 day outting in the FJC to test some new camping equipment (and introduce a 6 mo. old puppy to camping). No real wheeling, just typical fire roads for 45 miles 65 degree days and 45 degree nights and elk everywhere!

Camp location N 34.27’30” x W 111.16’30”

Some photos:
Overlook on the way in. The Mogollon Rim of AZ.

The Coleman Stove worked great. Used hot pad holders to rattle proof the grille. Bacon, eggs, and pancakes! Yummy! Percolator Coffee on the rocks!

Kelty Villa 4 Tent. Awesome room. 6' high at the interior peak. Toss in a queen sized air matress, a Cabelas 3D bag, and military Mummy.....warm! Plenty of room for 2 and dogs.

Late night cooking. Made easy by everything being handy in the back of the FJC. We use clear shallow tuperware containers. One for food, one for dishes/pots. These make it easy to find the random contents that are in there.

All of the gear (tent, mattress, 2 sleeping bags, 2 chairs, table, and clothes) are stored in a Sherpak 15 on the roof. Crappy photo sorry

Shila ('flame' in Inuit) did amazing out in the woods. Her true calling!

Next is 7 days/80 miles in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. FJC will be parked on the Rim.
