Re: Brock's "BRICK HOUSE" build....

Looks really good!

Besides cutting the side panels, were there any difficulties with the rear bumper install? I will be doing the same install this weekend.

Re: Brock's "BRICK HOUSE" build....

No there was not...a couple things not mentioned in directions...or I did not notice. I will try to explain...

1. the way the backup sensors come out of the oem bumper is not the same way you reinstall them in Warn bumper...the holes are not big enough. On OEM they push out from back to outside of bumper with L-shaped part making turn as they exit. On WARN you put them in from the inside (rear) of bumper....by hooking the edge through first. There is a lip on one side of sensor....so you hook it around the edge of opening so it will pull rest through. Hard to explain but keep playing with it and you will figure it out. Just do NOT try to force it in same way you take it out of oem bumper...thinking you can just squeeze it past...it wont go. SLide the clips under it to hold in place.....and you are set until you reconnect wires to back and then back into wiring harness of FJ.

2. When you pull off rear bumper...there are four triangular tabs across top that you took bolts out of.....go ahead and pop this off as all that is left holding it now are plastic tabs in underbody.

3. There are also two metal mounting plates...one just in between shock mount and left edge of door down flat with tab sticking toward rear for screw to go through that you took out at beginning. There is another on the right side. They will stop or block the WARN from sliding all the way on and are not needed...so recommend pulling those off as well. Only things you will reuse are the two plastic rear quarter panel protectors.....the back up sensors, wires, and retaining clips.

4.When I had bumper sitting on frame it was out about 2 inches still....make sure you cut enough...but not too much on end of plastic panel towards front. You can see on my pics there is a little pressure there on mine still where I need to trim a 1/16 or less to give clearance...but a good little bump with your ass on rear of WARN will slide it right up tight. I also had a deadblow rubber mallet....and used it to help align pieces with holes in frame and such.

5. Be careful with taping and cutting....pictures are not high quality.....so turn page and you can see some more angles...but do the right one first....and I recommend leaving a little extra until you are sure it is going to fit right and trim as needed. I used blue painters tape...easy to see and easy to remove afterwards.

6. One last thing that made me check and then put back like it was...there are four bolts that go through two supporting brackets as well has bottom of bumper. It looks as if the support brackets should go between bumper and frame...but they do not. bumper against frame...brackets under bumper mounts...line all the holes up....and install. Just read instructions. When doing the left side I had to get pry bar and push exhaust tip to outside more so I could get wrench on the two bolts to tighten them....if you dont unhook the hangars or have someone to do it for you....maybe put a strap on it and pull to side as it is right under bolts and a pain in the ass to get around without unhanging tailpipe or having someone pry it to side for you.

Just have metric sockets....and for a couple bolts you need two to hold one steady while you tighten on other end. It was fairly painless and easy. I had my wife help with lifting and handing me tools while I was on my back tightening and aligning everything.

Took me about 4 hours but I worked slow....and double checked my taping and cutting a couple extra times. I did not want to cut too much.

Re: Brock's "BRICK HOUSE" build....

Brock-

Nice rig build. I remember seeing it right after you installed your lift.

You're following a good program. Take your time. Research. Patient installs.

An excellent example of top end products at the best price possible and wind up with an extremely capable vehicle not to mention really sharp looking.

I like the Warn rear bumper as well but you have the best install on it that I've seen yet.

Thanks for posting all of this. It appears that she really is a "Brickhouse".

Yessir.

I got scuba mod left.....full set of OME shocks (front and rear). Plus DBENKE and DOCS FJ62 has bad alternator and some other things needed.

or we can spend 4 hours clay barring my paint since it looks like it has been whipped with a cat-o-nine-tails.
Obviously from the Generation XXX place next to Frankie's. A gift from the wife no doubt.

no worries there....

looking still for a heavy duty magnet....trying to mount a holster on back of Tuffy and then be able to put inside of tuffy without unclipping it or anything.

I missed our last gunshow....might have to go check out the stores for another used holster to mess with and figure out how I want it rather than just a permanent mount.
