Well, after drooling over the FJs since '06 and never thinking I would be able to get one, I pulled the trigger in October '08.
It all started when I totaled my '00 Chevy Blazer back in Feb. '08. I was drinking at a bar and, just like I would usually do, I drove home. I was fine until I got within 1/2 mile of my house. I turned onto my street and peeled out(I know..gay) fishtailing and rolled over into a ditch. I went car-less kinda (I have a street-legal dirt bike) for a couple months and then borrowed my brother-in-laws '94 Toyota truck. Moral of the story: Don't drink and drive. It'll catch up to you sooner than you think.
Now that I finally have the FJ, it's everything I had hoped and more. I really wanted 4WD but after a long talk with my dad and an amazing deal on this 2WD, I went with the deuce!
I had to take off the tupperware running boards after almost ripping them off on my first outing.
I picked up some 4x4 shocks and springs from
Razorbackfj and installed the fronts a couple days later. I have not yet installed the rears because it will have a front rake to it. I'm waiting to get a spacer for the front and then install the rears.
Before and after the front install:
I'm not a big fan of all the computer/electronic mumbo-jumbo that the automakers put in cars nowadays (power windows is my biggest hate). However, it does work for what it's made for so that's why I installed the switch so it can be used on the road. Some have had problems with this (bad wiring or just plain dumb). This is how it works: Turn on car, flip the switch to off (VSC now disengaged), burn as much rubber as you want

, flip the switch back to on,
turn car off then back on (VSC now engaged), enjoy clicking sound everytime you step on the gas too hard

.
Pictures of the VSC disable switch install:
Just bought (Feb 5) some ProComp 7" slim driving lights and will install them whenever I get my OEM switch and harness in.
Bajarack. This thing came in and I was so pumped about it that I went straight home and installed it without any help. It was a little tricky getting it on the roof, but I just couldn't wait for anyone to get home.
Near future mods:
Gobi Ladder
BFG MT 255/75/R17 with some factory steel wheels
Expedition One "Diamond" Bumper w/ PIAAs
Bilstein 5100s
Winch (haven't researched which one)
Snorkel
Cobra 25NWLTD, bandi mount, and firestick
That's all I want to really do to this FJ. It's only purpose is to be a vehicle to get me to the trailhead and maybe do some medium wheeling, no rock crawling (hince the 2WD status). Let me know what you think
