Rockchalkfj

First off just want to thank all of the great people on the forum for their innovative ideas and all their help. Hopefully no one is offended if I stole some of your ideas, I am trying to be as original as possible but it is hard when there are such great ideas that work so well. All that being said thank you all again and here we go!

It all started with a 2007 Ti, 4x4 AT, with diff lock, atrac, and everything minus the sub. Here is a picture of her the day she came home June 12, 2008:

My first mod wasn't by choice necessarily but, as you all know the stock tires are a joke and after my first car wreck ever I needed at least two new tires so I figured replace them all with BFG AT's 265's big mistake wish I'd of gotten 285's looking back on it but oh well. Great tires so far and loved every second on and off-road with them. I assume no picture necessary.

My first mod was to hard wire my Garmin so that I could actually reach it comfortably so I wired her up on the driver side silver panel:

As I drove around I missed my subs from my previous car and the sound system just seemed to be missing something. So I immediately ran to my favorite car audio shop and bought a shallow kicker 12" and a truck box that was tuned specifically for that sub I had a spare amp sitting around that was perfect that I wired up in the panel behind my sub. Here's the sub right where the factory would have been:

Then for privacy and aesthetics I tinted the windows and bought some ventshades to keep the weather out:

Soon after the windows I started to wheel on minimum maintenance roads here around Lawrence and at night the stock high beams weren't cutting it so after some research and about 90 bucks I installed some Hella 500's since thats what Toyota uses on the FJ, and a pic:

Also in the picture you can see the beginning of my mini-blackout which for now is just the mirrors, door handles, and grill/bezel.

Time for new door speakers (Infinity Kappas 6x9):

Frame:

And lastly installed with Best buy Toyota speaker harness:

My next mod kind of fell into my lap, a free CB/PA so not wanting to drill any holes yet... I installed it under my driver side seat with velcro:

And of course had to go with the remainder of the Big Bill combo 3' firestick 18' cable and last but not least the infamous BANDI:

After a camping trip or two with gear on top and several tree branches I started to notice my roof was scratched so to avoid further scratches I liked the line-x option:

After the line-x I figured it couldn't hurt to have a few more lights, but I had just paid tuition and cash was kind of tight so I bought four more Hella 500 this time 500ff (free form) supposedly brighter? I looked at light bars with air dams w/out and decided screw it I'll just fabricate one so here she is:

and wiring:

still need to trim the sides some weekend with a grinder...
And all 3 of my Hella switches this was the easiest place to wire them and it was out of sight:

hard wired cobra radar detector:
(sorry for the quality I will update later if needed)

With the sub over powering the two rear speakers I replaced them with Memphis components the speakers are mounted in the blank plastic spot in the backseat, they almost look stock.
New speakers:

My lights were bouncing around quite a bit whenever I would off road with them so I retired my homemade light bar and replaced them with a $84 Tuffy light bar:

New Pioneer AVIC-X710bt w/ bluetooth phone integration:

ipod:

back up camera that I installed inside rear bumper:

nav:

and an alarm w/remote start I assume no pic necessary...

Thanks again to everyone and look for future updates!

Ben

Re: Rockchalkfj

very nice rig. Looking to do something like that to mine. Question, does basically any subwoofer work with the toyota cable that the stock sub is connected to?

Great rig so far... I like how you included something you did and then changed later. Because that is really how it all happens. Nobody chooses everything right the first time... well that just doesn't happen.

my FJ came without the sub but I drove one with the sub and thought it sounded awful so I went the aftermarket route. Ran all my wires for my amp and just wired it up like any other car very simple. Don't waste money on installs it's fun to take these things apart and take your time!
