Does anyone know of a good shop in the St. Louis area that can install a lift kit. I am leaning towards going with a OME or Toytec lift it seems to be the most popular kit on the FJ for the price. I am also considering just adding a 2 or 2.5in. spacer up front to level it and down the road going with a coil over lift. Is this a bad idea? I am getting ready to order Axis Regulators 16x9 with BFG ATs 285/75/R16 so I not even sure a 2 or 2.5in. spacer would be enough lift. If anyone has any good advise please let me know. Would even consider going driving a couple hundred miles to get it done by someone who has done lifts on FJC before. I have talked to a couple shops in St. Louis but they have never done one.
I'm pretty new to this all, but for what it's worth Comb's tire and auto on Big Bend in Kirkwood has fantastic staff. The owner lives on my street, and he's a great guy (Scott) a few of the guys over there are real into offroading, and do a lot of mods to their jeeps, trucks whatever-one guy just put on a 16" lift!
They have always been great and helped me a lot through the years.
Bottom line; I trust them with my FJ. and a lift is a pretty strait forward deal.
They only thing is who's going to charge you a fair price.
Maybe some else will have more experienced advice for you, I'd love to know too!

The Toytec lift is easy to install and levels the vehicle. Any decent spring shop could do the install just shop around for a good price. I installed 4 lifts so far and like the Toytec. We have gotten to the point that a Toytec lift takes 30 mins to install.
I'd go for a full lift and not spacers if you are going to do any serious off-roading. I had my OME heavy's installed by the Toyota dealer. His prices were actually less than off-road shops! Plus, if the dealer does it, he has to warranty it!
I live in Richland, MO about 150 miles west of STL
cheers,
dale

if you do the toytec route, which is what i have, just take it to midas or car x, all the lift is are springs. nothing else needs to be done or modified.
btw: im just across the rive from ya in wood river, maybe when warmer we can set up a FJ meet and greet
Thanks for all the information. I talked to Axleboys today they seem to know what they are doing. They were more familar with the OME lift vs the toytec because they are a dealer for them. But isnt the toytec and OME pretty much the same except for the rear springs? Either way I think their both very good lifts. Got to hurry up and get it done tires and wheels already on their way.
