Re: Solo Trip - Northwoods Overland - Winch-o-Rama

Can a mostly stock truck run this area and not bang the hell out of it?

I have a stock truck with sliders, brush guard and stock size Terra Grapplers. No lift, but do have the factory locker and A trac.

What do they charge for admission?

Re: Solo Trip - Northwoods Overland - Winch-o-Rama

The first time I went my truck had a stock suspension and running boards. I had added a winch bumper and winch. I also had the factory locking differential. There are green trails that are designed for use stock. I had a lot of fun on them. There are yellow trails that are intended to be a bit harder, but would probably still be very doable in a stock FJ. I would stay off the red ones. The stock FJ is a capable truck. Running stock, one needs to be careful of terrain or stumps that might hang the truck up. Apprach angles might be a bit shallower. I found the biggest challenge negotiating between trees and thats the same whether stock or not. I did use my winch heavily, especially the second time, due to mud-slick trails. Running stock would probably require a bit more care and caution, but I think you would have a great time. This area favors finesse over brute strength.

I can't recall how the cost breaks down, but both times my bill including camping two nights, wheeling and some fire wood came to about $50 to $60 bucks. Plus, it is a nice campground with decent facilities.
