Boy, I want a bigger tank so bad! I read every one of these "fuel" threads just in case someone comes up with a nice clean solution.
You an me both! I went so far as to email aux. fuel tank makers in Australia, to see if they would ship one to me - no replies yet though

Re: research: toyota prado fuel sub-tank?

So, as I said earlier, I had emailed Welcome to 4WD Systems Online, and they actually replied. However, it again, doesn't look good. Plus, I do not know how to respond. The reply is below, but does anybody have this information?

Hi,
I dont think we would be able to prototype the tank over such a distance with no vehicle available. How close to what model Prado is the tank like?

Ethanol burns relatively clean, and is renewable. Gasoline is not.

The main downsides, are that ethanol doesn't give as good of milage as gasoline, and it's slightly more expensive to produce.

And it's heavily subsidized...

Re: research: toyota prado fuel sub-tank?

I am guessing Toyota is leery of putting a gastank behind the rear axle for the north american market because that is less safe than having it where it is.

Maybe the Aussies are less litigious than USA people and also maybe likely to be rear ended ... you would think they have less traffic congestion.

Also the extra range is probably more of a requirement for your average Aussie than your average north american person. Note "average". Most N. Americans never are more than 90 miles from a station. Relatively few people travel offroad in the Interior West, compared to those in the East or in CA. But there are certainly those of use who do.

I strongly suspect that the Prado back tank could work in the FJ. Might have to move the canister though.

Getting a Prado tank into the US might be a challenge.

BTW the gas in UT seems to better than OR. Also seems Sinclair gas is higher quality. (Made from N. American crude, also, btw). THey even have 93 octane at some stations in UT.
