StepByStep Install: Expedition One Sliders

There might already be another step by step installation thread, but I thought I would share my experiences.

My first step was to remove the exiting running boards. This turned out to be a little more difficult since they have scene some heavy trail abuse. I highly recommend people replace your running boards if you plan to go off road. The follow pictures shows that running boards just don't stand up to much

The running board mounts had to be hammered straight, in order for me to get a ratchet on the bolts.

Now to start the Slider Installation. I would highly recommend giving the underbelly a good pressure washing before starting. Having dirt and sand fall in your eyes is not fun . I would also run a bolt through all the mounting holes to clean out the threads. It is much easier to do now, than when you are trying to thread the bolt by hand while propping up a 20lb slider.

The first step in mounting the sliders was to remove the brake line mount

I found it easiest to hang the sliders by the front top mount. I placed just a bolt in the bottom hole. I slid the top slider mount on that bolt.

Now comes the hard part. You have to lift the bottom half of the slider, while threading a bolt into the bottom hole. I didn't use a wash since it made it more difficult to hold and line up bolts. Then do the same for the front mount. The sliders should now relatively line up with bolt holes. I did the bottom bolts and washers first. Be sure top holes line up before you tighten down the bottom bolts. Then I installed the top bolts.

The final step was to remove the initial mounting bolts and reinstall with the washers.

These look so much better then the running boards, and they are trail ready.

A BIG THANK YOU to James an Expedition One Sliders. He designed a great slider.

Re: StepByStep Install: Expedition One Sliders

Thanks for the write-up Terahex! Have you taken these off road yet? I'm curious if those steps have gotten hung up at all? I too am considering these sliders. Too repeat the running boards are NOT for offroad use, mine look very much like yours

Looks great Tera! I think you are the first with the Ex One sliders if I'm not mistaken and I must say that jfonz did a great job on these. Now go scratch them up!

+1

I am wondering how these will "slide" over rocks with sheet steel braces rather than square or round stock many other sliders are made from.

I truly hope they slide like butter as my wife likes the foot steps on these, which gives me an easy sell when it is time to raid the family checking account. But, I also don't want an EDGE that will hang up...
