then sell it
I notice a lot of guys running with cracked wind sheilds love to hug up close to other vehicles. I get accused of driving like an old man but I was taught to leave room between me and the vehicle in front of me. So I do, and guys are constantly popping in there and I back off a little further.
Now lets see, no windsheild problems, oh wow, just driving like you should and no problems. No it is not a cure all, but like I said, Take a bit of responcibility. If you know there is a problem, change driving style.
We have a very large and active group of wheelers in FJCs and have yet to lose a window on trail, because we warn everyone to back off before the start of the run. In over a year of doing runs with lots of FJcs going only one windshield has cracked, and that was on the way home when one guy admits he thought it would be cool to have 2 dirty FJCs running down the freeway close up so all could see, took about 30 seconds to get a rock from the tire of the first FJC.
Yes he was P.O.ed, but admits it as his fault. Now, with the activity we do, and the way we have all learned to back off, I think the system works.
How much room ? 8 blocks? never had any problems when i was parking on peoples rear bumpers,, (Plse. stay on the right lane if u can't handle the left) till I tried that space it out a bit crap,, actually noticed more hits (and got the mother hit) when you have a 3-5 car length spacing,, I picked mine up in Nov. from Nov. till last week my windshield was flawless,, The front dead on hits are not the only problems either, other vehicles that pass u also spit up crap from the road and hit your glass,, My friends fj windshield cracked when a car passed him on his right.. that spit up a pebble,, to bad he wasn't going a little faster it probably would of hit the pillar instead..
Better yet, one of my chips and eventual cracks was done from my own tires. I was the only one on the road and my FJ came stock with rock throwing, window chipping tires I guess. I am going on my second replacement window in less than 10K miles. I took delivery the 10th of December. Eventually every FJ owner will say we have a problem here.....

well I guess you are just the exception
Like I said, over a year and no issues yet. at 14 thou, that is not a lack of driving. Or wheeling.
I run an 04 wrangler also, Ran a 65 CJ5 for 20 years, both those vehicles are famous for being rock magnets and glass blowing out, have lost about 2 windshields early after getting the CJ, backed off after that and haven't had an issue since. Lets chaulk that up to 20 years of luck because according to you, all vehicles have it out for windsheilds.
I stand on that, I hate argueing on the web. THread belongs to you, you win
But I think it would be a hard and uphill battle to get Toyota to do something about the windsheild while FJCs are flying off the shelf the way they are. Bad design is one thing, but Liability is something else all together.
At the end of the day, Toyota lives on it's reputation. This windshield cluster-f@#k is destroying that reputation. That's the only reason Toyota should need.

Own up to personal responcibility, you bought a vehicle with possible windshield problems because you loved the design and overlooked it. If you want it changed, you should not have bought it, Toyota gets the message by lack of sales.
No disrepect, but this is quite possibly the lamest statement I've ever read on a board. First, not everyone knew about this before they bought their FJ. Second, I bought based on Toyota's reputation and this windshield damn sure doesn't meet it...

I just bought my FJ last week, the dealer sold me a treatment called "Diamond Fusion" for my windshield that is supposed to make it 70% stronger (hype?). At any rate, they warranty the windshield against stone chips or breakage for 4 years with this coating. For $185 sounded like a bargain.
I don't think highbeams comment about personal responsibility was totally correct, my first crack (2 days after I bought the FJ) came when I was passing a semi which was 2 lanes away. The 2nd crack came when a car was passing me on the left on a city street. You can't do anything about a car passing you.
I do think he has a point on the design issue. The second I got in the FJ and sat in the seat I said "vertical window, the windshield is going to break". I knew this from having a wrangler for 10 years. I knew it was going to happen and I chose to buy the vehicle anyway. Now after 22K miles in 6 months I have 2 cracks. Now if you weren't aware of the issue I can see why you might be miffed, but as for me I went into it with full knowledge and it would be hypocritical of me to complain now, except maybe about the replacement cost

no sh*t? ...wish they did that here in vegas, I could care less what they actually put on it as long as they are going to replace that mofo for free for 4 years its worth it I'd say.
PS. I was born in carson city graduated from chs in '98
