weird whine?

I went offroading in azusa canyon and misjudged a mud pit and ended up getting pretty stuck in some deep mud. Mud water leaked in on the passenger side almost a 1/4 of the lower speaker level. I got pulled out and everything was fine, but now i hear this weird whine almost like a slight supercharger whine coming from the engine when its running. Any ideas anyone or anyone had this happen with water and the fj?

Re: weird whine?

I would say it's 1 of the idler pulleys but could be the alternator .

Re: weird whine?

As above, its one of your pulleys. How many miles are on your truck?
Get under it and clean off every little spec of dirt and mud that you see. Get everything. Everything. then take it into the dealer. Make sure you spray the pulleys off to make sure they aren't caked with mud. If you can get all the mud out, they may warranty it, but if they see a ton of mud, expect to pay for it to be replaced.

Good luck man. At least you were having fun.

Re: weird whine?

^lol, after reading some posts on the problem it probably is the pulley. It seems i'm not the only one with this problem. i went through some pretty damn deep mud, and hopefully my dealer doesn't void my warranty because there is still alot of dirt inside the engine bay, the outside is clean and buffed for now but didnt touch the engine bay.

Re: weird whine?

I had 3 pulleys replaced in under 6 months. If the battery light comes on and your more than 15 minutes from home Stop driving. I on the other hand kept driving thinking my alternator was bad. The pulley locked up broke the serpintine belt wich caused the radiator to crack at the cap and the steering pump keep getting air in the lines so it had to be replaced. The dealer should replace it no questions asked.
