I tried not to piss them off, I wouldn't even answer the windshield poll on the home page for fear of upsetting the higher powers that control my fate. But, it had to happen and it did, on Route 80 East this morning an object of undetermineable size and construction interfered with my designated path and grazed my hood and collided with my windshield.
At first I didn't even see where it hit but after a second look the damage was obvious, between the wiper blade and the bottom of the glass a star break appeared with one tentacle just ever so much longer than the rest.
By the time I got done reciting the seven dirty words you can't say on TV that crack was now heading north and clearing the wiper blade. I know, nothing I can do but enjoy the show and avoid hitting other vehicles while my attention is being distracted.
I looked down again and I swear I thought I saw that little star break wink at me, and now the crack was twice as long. My drive to work in the morning takes about 30-40 min depending on traffic so I figured based on the amount of time left and the height of the windshield this crack should bisect the glass before I get there.
BUT WAIT, for a few minutes the crack stopped advancing and I started accepting the future and the reality of having to live with this crack. I'll survive and everything will be all right. It was at this moment I realized the crack must be female because in that instant it decided to change it's mind and was now heading west across the windshield where it has finally come to rest (for now).
So my questions are thus:
1) The star break is approx 1 inch above the bottom of the glass and since I know the cracks will get longer do I have the possibility of water leaking in at the bottom? The star cracks extend below the visable area.
2) Is there any method to prevent my little friend from getting any longer?
3) What is this little adventure going to cost me?
4) Warranty, will it cover?
