Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

I just finished up with my stereo efforts and most of that was an effort to reduce interior wind and road noise as the FJ is not the quietest car I have ever owned. Look at these pictures for reference in the link.

Pictures of Installation

Idle Decibels went from 45db to 39 db
70mph highway DB went from 72 down to 62 DB's

That is huge! Remember that 3db's is an effective double the noise or half the noise difference!!
The whole truck feels more quiet and removed from the sounds of outside and allows me to be more comfortable and relaxed inside... plus the stereo sounds better too!!

Re: Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

Update..

Just got back from my first road trip for extended periods of time on the highway. There is a dramatic improvement in the windnoise from the roof rack as well as the tires over different kinds of pavement. It is really awesome!!

Re: Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

Hi,
I am a new FJ owner and am disenchanted with the amount interior noise. I realize I should expect an amount of wind noise from such a boxy vehicle, but I am hearing an almost inperceptable, but very annoying noise that sounds like wind rattling around within the rear body panels. I close my eyes and imagine it is an empty tupperware container blowing around somewhere. How much insulation, if any, should there be within the body panels and is this noise normal?
The stock exhaust also seems to be very loud from within the vehicle.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Is that shiny insulation shown in your photos stock, or did you add all of that just to reduce the wind noise?

Re: Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

3db isnt twice the noise or half the noise to your ear. it is simply the amount of noise it takes to hear a difference.

So why is it noted all things equal when you double the power or double the output of a speaker driver is there a 3db increase in the capable volume output?

Twice as much noise nets 3db increase?

Re: Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

I want to deaden my FJ, I have only down the rear floor and rear quarter panels barely with "b-quiet" not sure if that stuff is even any good, but I got a whole roll on ebay for cheap a long time ago.

How much did it cost you?

Re: Interior Noise Reduction (DB's)

I am going to do a install tomorrow on my truck. I don't have the noise problem that some of you do. I have the toyo guard on my truck but I would like it to be dead silent if possible. I use edead same stuff as dynamat at half the price.
