SPARES for Trail Repairs (what should we bring along?)
There are a lot of people here on the forum who have forgotten much more about FJ repairs than I will EVER know. It is to you, the enlightened that I turn.
PLEASE GIVE ME A LIST OF SPARE PARTS that I should have in the FJ for "anticipated" trail repairs. And by that I mean, a complete rear axel and transfer case is a bit over the top because of space considerations. There have been threads on "what to take along for long range expeditions" but I'd like people like Cruiser Larry and some of the other people here on the forum to give us a list of the spare parts that THEY have in the inventory in the back of their rigs.
Thanks!

I've got tools, spare hose clamps, rescue strap, steel cable, parachute cord, a large first aid kit, fuel/water/food, hi-lift, shovel, axe, sleeping bag, towels, widgets and gadgets, a powertank, and all of the junk that I need to do the basics -- but beyond that, what have you out there in forum-land had BREAK on your FJ where you said, "I wish I had a spare part."

In talking with the Trail teams guys, axle shafts and a diff would be about all that should be required. While I'm sure there have been other broken parts, those are the two they have seen the most.
To me, hauling a diff isn't practical. Axle shaft(s) are.

Re: SPARES for Trail Repairs (what should we bring along?)
A few important ones that have come to my attention:
Tire and tire repair kit; CV shaft, boots and joints and high temp grease (boots aren't necessary to get you off the trail and home); Rear LCA (only necessary if it actually breaks); all the tools necessary to replace these items (such as a 35mm socket for the hub lug and a cheater bar to break loose new/weathered nuts/bolts); lots of rags; handy wipes sure are nice; tarps to work on/under the rig or keep out the sun/rain; bungee cords; duct tape, zip ties, electrical tape...blah, blah, blah
Survival gear for the unexpected overnight:
Sleeping bag, water, energy bars, spare clothes, spare shoes, fleece, wind/rain jacket, hat and gloves.
PM me and I'll give you the list of what I carry...
Re: SPARES for Trail Repairs (what should we bring along?)
I've heard a lot of people recommend a CV joint. I checked the parts department and they said it's about $500. My question is, if the CV joint breaks, can the truck still be driven. If the answer is that replacement would be desirable, but not necessary, then I would rather not carry around a $500 spare part that I will probably never need.
I currently carry the usual tools, fluids, zip ties, hose clamps, etc.
