Question on Accessories, wiring, and switches. Help please!

Hey!

I have a quick question. Now, if I get a set of brush gaurd lights, I assume there are a few pieces. You'll have the lights and associated hardward, then you'll have a foglight switch to put in the control panel, then im assuming you will also have a Toyota wiring harness to install.

Are instructions for installation included with the accessory? Am I right for the most part about all the pieces, switches, and wiring all coming together?

Just curious

Also, why are the dang switches so expensive?

You are correct that most light kits, come with some wire, a switch and general instructions. Some of the better ones, will have a relay and a fuse thrown in there, and better instructions, but I don't think that any kits come with a special harness adaptor for a specific car.

Re: Question on Accessories, wiring, and switches. Help please!

If you are talking O.E.M. accessories, than I'm not very familiar with the FJ wiring, but most of the new cars come with a wire harness that is prewired for all the possible options to be offered. I'm not sure what an O.E.M. light kit consists of, but once you get all your stuff together, it should be plug and play, type of deal. Sorry, I don't think I'm helping you out very much here.

Well after seeing about the Atrac hack where the wiring is already there and you just need a switch, I am a little more comfortable to assume that the wiring should be there.

Re: Question on Accessories, wiring, and switches. Help please!

Any additional wiring that is needed for a Toyota accessory will come with the kit, and will plug into existing connectors in the factory harness. In some cases (such as lights) the kit will also include a fuse and relay to be installed in a "reserved" slot in the relay box.

My experience with the Toyota "add-ons" is that they come with ALL of the parts you are going to need, and (relatively) good instructions.
