The paint won't take abuse. Not sure it is _this_ paint, or all Japanese paints, or every paint. My impression is that modern automotive finishes can't take the modern road environment.

Get the front resprayed at some point, and put 3M film on it right away. It's more than worth the investment, which will be as little as $300 for the full kit if you do it yourself, or as much as $700 from an experienced installer.

Re: i love my truck but...

The Toyo service guy told me yesterday that the FJ paint is just crap -- other Toyotas don't have this problem. And paints have been more environmentally friendly for a while now, so it's not just that. I replied that you'd think they'd put the BEST paint on their car which is meant to go offroad...

Re: i love my truck but...

Toyota didn't want the paint to harm any branches...so it jumps off the truck to get out of the way....it's enviromently friendly

Re: i love my truck but...

I found this stuff called clearmask...its a very clear plastic type coating that you can buy and apply yourself, kinda like putting on tint. They have pre cuts for the FJ cruiser on there website....check it out...it is good for protecting againt road rocks and also on the side of the FJ to prevent branches while offroading from messing up the paint. check out there website at clearmask com

Re: i love my truck but...

for a toyota the paint is really crappy. even has that 'orange peel' dimpled look if you stare at it for too long.

man, they really pulled out the cheap stops for the FJC.

at least it wheels good.
