front trailer hitch

Im looking for a front trailer hitch that might work with the stock skid plate. ( or Not) Something to push my Zodiac down the road to the launch ramp at Ocean Cove Calif.

Re: front trailer hitch

The 2" receiver is going to have to tie back into the frame to be effective. I have not seen any commercially available for the FJ. You can find a basic 2" receiver at most well stocked trailer dealers. Let uus know if you find anything.

Re: front trailer hitch

search for hitch or multi mount and you will see some custom ones. There is a company that is now building one but I forgot the name.

Dumb question probably, but what's the advantage of a forward hitch?

Adding a multi mount winch. This way you can hook it up to the 2" receiver up front and then move it to the rear depending on how you want to winch yourself out.

I am trying to do a custom one with the hitch Homedad gave me.

Re: front trailer hitch

It is also much easier to control a trailer when there is not enough room to swing the front end of a vehicle around in order to move the ball at the rear. I used a front hitch to push a 25' center console down my curvy drive. It was impossible to back it through the curves with the trees that lined both sides. Food for thought.

Re: front trailer hitch

Backing down a long curvy narrow dirt road to launch my boat was bad enough with the 89 4runner. The FJ doesn’t give you a lot of view to the rear.
