my brand new 2007 fj w/ less than 800 miles...

Broken windshield.
and not just a little chip.. the chip happened and immediately a 7" "j" type crack came with it.
damn it!
so... if the crack happened that easily... how fast will this crack spread?
South carolina doesn't have any state inspections... so i'm probably gonna just drive w/ it cracked.
my question is ... has anyone called a windshield company to fix it w/ the clear stuff? ... if so... how much?

If you have a 7" crack you're looking at a new windshield, imo. I've heard claims they can be patched and stopped, but I'm skeptical. A pit doesn't have any fault line to work its way along. I think a crack will always spread until it reaches an edge. As to how long... could be tomorrow or next year.

crack=new windshield.

I purchased a new honda accord a few years back and cracked the windshield the first day. It sucks but thats what insurance is for.

just get the 0$ deduct windshield insurance, it doesn't cost that much and it will save you from situations like this.

My wife's Accord got softball sized hail less than 24 hours after we bought it. Both windshields were smashed through and the resulting repair bill was $8K.

See? It could have been worse.

x2 The glass coverage I have through SFI covers the windshield, headlights, corner lights and taillights with $0 deductible.
