Gear Shifting

I have a 6MT and I can't power shift without bronco-billing the thing all over.. why is it so sluggish.. any lightened flywheel+clutch combo available for this thing?

Re: Gear Shifting

this FJ thing aint a sports performance SUV. I understand you're goin from a twin -turbo 350z to a mini-tank. But there wont be too many aftermarket speed performance parts for the FJ, unless you look at TRDs.

juss like you tho, I love FAST.....regardless of the type of vehicle.

AND if you happen to find a light clutch wheel, lemme kno. I'm still saving up for the CAI and quickshifter.

Re: Gear Shifting

hehe, understood..

even the stock 350z tranny bugged me, so I had to go with a pretty gnarly aftermarket flywheel+clutch combo meal, for a super crisp gear transitions. I don't expect the FJ to perform anything like a sedan or a sports cars, but little things are bothering me... nothing major, though.. I love my mini-tank

Re: Gear Shifting

Get the short shifter kit. It is a bit pricey for the TRD (I have this one), but it really makes shifting and driving the 6mt much nicer and sportier. Plus your shifter doesn't encroach the passenger side nearly as much in the higher gears. URD makes a kit also that uses the stock shift lever a spacer and an extension. The TRD gets you a spacer and an entirely new shift lever and of course, longer bolts. If you get either one of these, make sure you have some silicone sealant on hand when doing the change-out.

My fraternity brother and two year roommate had an older saab that had a real long throw from 4th to 5th, and being that he and his dad do lots of track events with other cars, he was pissed about the long throw. Instead of shortening the shift length ect. his dad simply told him that it was the "opportunity shift"
His dad explained to him that the opportunity shift was great for when you were out with a girl the first time or second and want to cross the touch barrier. Simply go from 4th to 5th and "brush" her leg on the way.
It works, and is UBER smooth.
