Re: Cleaning Pulleys

The reason mine does not (besides abuse ) is that my warranty is over. I have 42K miles and that warranty is good until 36K unless you bought the extended warranty.

I don't buy the abuse excuse (from you, the dealer, or my co-workers )... 42k miles is a different story... That's just expired warranty. I'm at 18k miles, have had 2 done already, and I'm booked in for the 3rd on tues... I fully expect it to be warranty.

If ALL the pulleys failed that's one thing. I've replaced the same pulley, and none of the others have failed... Not even the one on the bottom of the motor. I feel that if the pulleys had failed because they were exposed to conditions they weren't designed for, they ALL would have failed systematically. However only 1 fails, therefore I believe that 1 pulley to be faulty. That's my story and I'm stikin to it!

Cheers!

The powertrain warranty is 5 yr/60k mi, and it seems to me that pulleys would be covered by that since they're part of the engine.

Re: Cleaning Pulleys

Ah, well in that case, i'll just take it to the dealer if it's covered! I was just assuming it wouldn't be since it is most likely caused from mudding/offroading and not normal or premature wear and tear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, goes in the shop tomorrow.

Re: Cleaning Pulleys

If it was me, I'd only expect the warranty to cover it if the pulleys failed during "typical use". If I trash them trying to be a mud bogging scuba driving hero, I don't think I'd feel right asking Toyota to give me new pulleys.

That's why I like this thread. Now I know how fix it myself after I break it.

Everyone's definition of "typical use" seems to be different, so let's try to stay out of that debate.

Re: Cleaning Pulleys

if u go in for warranty on the puller pull the bottom skid plate off and hose off from underneath the truck and in between the ra and a/c condens ..

if that bottom skid plate is filled with mud and dirt they will say abuse and not cover it or pull the warranty for the worset case..

Funny you should say that. On the way home today I decided to make a short movie for the dealership in case they have an issue with water splashed under the hood. Ignore the fact that it sucks. I'll have to make a better one.

mine failed both times at or below the water level TOYOTA says is the limit...27.5 inches I beleive...and they(the pullies) are well under water at that point...so it was covered both times...covered in mud and all....
