Spare Nuts and Bolts

We were at the SedonaFest last weekend and having someone in our group have a LCA bolt almost come out because of a lost nut. I thought I would ask: Does anyone have a list of sizes for bolts and nuts we might need? I thought I would make up a bag of spares.

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

The thumbnails below are from the Repair Manual and also listed in the Service Specifications. One page lists several classes of bolts, with size, pitch, and torque. Another lists how to determine bolt strength. The last page lists how to determine strength of nut.

This may not capture all bolt and nut sizes. For instance the lower arm bolts are purchased as a bolt set, and do not call out the size.

One last thing, the bolt size to wrench size for the head for Japanese Industrial Standard is as follows:

4 mm bolt - 7 mm wrench
5 mm bolt - 8 mm wrench
6 mm bolt - 10 mm wrench
8 mm bolt - 12 mm wrench
10 mm bolt - 14 mm wrench
12 mm bolt - 17 mm wrench
14 mm bolt - 19 mm wrench
16 mm bolt - 22 mm wrench

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

Hi Mike:

Another lost rear LCA nut? Do you remember if this FJ had aftermarket LCAs? The reason I'm asking is if the LCAs were installed by a shop, chances are the nuts were tightened by an impact wrench and not properly torqued.

For the rear LCAs, the factory pivot bolts are M14-1.5 x 90mm long. The factory flange nut PN is 90178-14011. Torque specified in FSM is 96 ft-lbs.

edit: I recommend getting Grade 10.9 metric hardware for spare.

I did the feild repair on that rig....the LCA were stock....but were removed to install the All-Pro LCA skids....the nut was gone and the bolt backed out about half way and kicked itself out of line....the realignment was tough on the trail....but all was good and we got her out of there....

This is the third time I've seen this on the trail.....everyone,including myself...needs a spare....

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

Hi Thong,

It was Bobo's rig. It was the bolt on the LCA attachment on the axle. That shouldn't have been removed when the LCA skids where put on.

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

That is a bummer for Bobo I have 2 spare bolts and nuts. One set is OME parts and the other is from the hardware store to get me home in emergency's.

Bolt part number is 90119-14118

That is very strange that it was the axle side that came lose.

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

Thanks Josh. How about other nuts and bolts I should get. Some of the most common sizes on the FJ.

Re: Spare Nuts and Bolts

This would be a great list to have for everyone. I need to start getting all the spare parts together for my FJ. I am getting worried just reading the forum. I know you can never have to much but there are some key items that will always come in handy. What are you guys lugging around when you head out?
