Not at all. It took me awhile to figure out you don't have to slam the rear window to get closed. All you have to do is apply pressure while closing and it shuts that way.

Holy Cow, I've been slamming it since it was new. You just told me something else I didn't know. Hey, next round is on me...

It's a miracle I didn't break mine! Then it dawned on me to gently push it closed and click! There was athread awhile back about others with same issue so I didn't feel so stupid myself.

Re: Rear Window Does Not Open with Key...WTF!

One Sunday after church, Sandy and I were visiting her folks and I asked her dad Raymond if he wanted to "go truck shopping". So we head off to Airport Toyota and drive a couple of SS FJ's. The one I preferred had the off-road package but not the UP2 so I wasn't really interested, but of course they were "make us an offer". So I make them an offer of about $27K and they start the back and forth.. I was just checking out the FJ and opened the back door and looked at the window. Talking to my self, I said "wonder how this opens" and then walked around to see if the manual was in the glove box. It wasn't but when I went to the back, Raymond was bending the defroster connections back and forth thinking they were releases (i.e. VW's). I thought "holy crap he's going to break them off" and quickly said that's not the way to do it. The manager calls me in to "deal" leaving Raymond and the sales guy with the FJ. I make another offer and he goes to "see what he can do" so I go back outside to check on Raymond. They're standing at the back of the FJ and the salesman is bending the defroster tabs back and forth. He yanks off one of the connectors as I walk up and says, well that's not it.. Needless to say, I didn't buy that one It was the funniest thing I've ever seem.. Two 70 year old guys breaking the tabs off the window.. Ron

Oh Man. I feel sorry for the person who has to deal with that. BTW, we have an Airport Toyota here in western Ohio. These sales huys have to be the worst I've ever seen. I'm serious, They throw prices at you that are so far out there and act like it's a good deal. Neddless to say, I bought my FJ in Indiana!

Re: Rear Window Does Not Open with Key...WTF!

Mee too.. The sales people are really clueless on the FJ. I actually bought mine from the biggest, and most expensive, Toyota dealer in town. The salesman didn't know anything about it and told me so. He took notes when I told him about the packages and told me how he was just divorced and quit the restaurant business. He was an honest/nice guy. The truck manager was a bit of a blow, so it took me six hours to make the deal.. Ron

I seriously just learned something new! I've been slamming it to get it to close. I wanna go outside and try it but too lazy to put on clothes. I don't want my neighbors to have a hissy fit.

Wow your right, going on 2 years with FJC so I feel like such a knuclehead. I have'nt opened that window since last Christmas....I really would have looked like some dumb a$$ if I had brought it back to the dealer for that. Thanks!!!

I feel silly but thanks for resopnding!

No worries man. Just last weekend I was standing in the Lowe's parking lot Cussing Toyota's rear window for the same reason and preparing to strap some 2x4's to the roof instead of just hanging them out the back. I tried several times to get it to open with no luck, but could always hear the click sound in the door.

Then I turned the Key clockwise and "Pop". My wife laughed her ass off for a good 2 minutes or so for that one. We all make asses of ourselves fro time to time, thats what makes life more fun and interesting for those that are around watching us.
