clanking noise, need help.

My set-up i am running is in my signature. This just started yesterday out of the blue (as in no offroading recently or recent installs).

If i am in neutral and shift in to reverse and start to move, i hear a clank. if i stop. and then put in D and go forward, i hear another clank. As if something is moving when i change directions. It is definitely coming from the front of the vehicle. I checked the winch and the bumper and that all seems fine. Maybe sway bar or something???

Any one ran into this issue before and have an idea?

Re: clanking noise, need help.

I figured out that alot of the clanking on my vehicle was from the trailing link skids from AllPro. If you don't have them tightened enough, they'll tilt back and forth when the rear suspension drops even the slightest. Easy fix. Though it did sound like the back end was about to hit the ground...

i don't have that product though,

I just checked the entire back end, drive shaft, shocks, and exhaust system, now i am about to go check and wiggle as much of the front as i can.

Once again, it's coming from the front ( i think) and it is ONLY when i change direction from forward to reverse, or reverse to forward.

Shake them up and down and you should feel some slack, it could aslo be slack in your front diff.

Re: clanking noise, need help.

If there are grease nips shoot some in there and see if the noise changes, not a fix but a diagnostic tool.

Re: clanking noise, need help.

Okay skid plates are off. I was thinking the sway bar was maybe hitting something but that doesn't seem to be it either. Man. the search continues. I am going to go grease it up right now.

Re: clanking noise, need help.

Okay, ive managed to isolate the sound to an exact instance
If i put it into reverse, and take off it is when i apply the brakes. Like something is shifting.

When i take off in drive and then apply the brakes, it makes the exact same noise, like something is being shifted forward.
