Re: URD short throw shifter????

I put mine in about 3-4 weeks ago. Very worth it. If you put one in, be sure to use a weighted shift knob or reverse will be a real pain. Anything from TWM is a great compliment to the URD kit.

Re: URD short throw shifter????

I installed mine about six months ago and like it a lot compared to the long throw of the stock shifter. I have the stock shift knob, and reverse is a little tricky, you have to rock it into place while applying a good amount of pressure. Maybe I will have to try a heavy shift knob and see how that works?

Re: URD short throw shifter????

I've had mine for a few months and I love it. If you guys are having difficulty getting into reverse, it isn't properly installed. It should be a little more stiff than stock, but not much. I had the same problem. It was so hard I had to use two hands to get into reverse. I called URD and they said it wasn't installed correctly. They were right. Now reverse is easy with one hand. I rate the product very highly. I also agree that a weighted shift knob is a great addition. TWM Performance makes some of the best.

Re: URD short throw shifter????

I have the .44Mag on the stick and the M1 Abrams on the T-case. Both with the satin finish and the black bolts in the Magnum. Absolutely love them.

I read this thread before installing my URD short throw and made sure that the shift extension was seated properly....reverse is a real pain in the ars. I am curious as to what you did to correct this?

Re: URD short throw shifter????

Part of this has to do with the loss of leverage you get by extending the stem. By doing this you are moving the distance of the fulcrum (pivot point of the shifter) away from the load (transfer case), which results in more force required to change gears.

The reason many of us use a weighted shift knob is to counter this loss in leverage. The momentum gained by adding weight reduces the force required to shift.

And you thought physics was just for figuring out if a bowling ball or golf ball would hit first if dropped from the same height
