'08 FJ ATRAC no locker

I have read all the articals that say that you have to have the locker to have ATRAC. I have found on Toyota-Parts that there is a switch that you can buy for a FJ with no e-locker.

I know that the best way would be to just buy the switch, but that is a $50 switch that will probably not work. I need to know can I go buy a rocker test switch and hook that up to test with? Does anyone know how I would wire that, what wire to what terminal?

If it is more then a switch I would like to know what it takes to have ATRAC installed. I do not need a rear locker, because I do not know what to do with them (I am new to 4 wheeling) and I got the very basic model. Maybe my next FJ will have it.

I understand that '07 do not have this, it has to be '08.

There is a hack for it, and its supposed to work. Search for it, or try this The "No Cut" A-TRAC + RR DIFF Hack.

Re: '08 FJ ATRAC no locker

Figure out which position the switch would mount in. See your owners manual. Pry out the switch hole cover. Comes right out if you pry with a small screw driver from the bottom edge. If there is a plug in the hole with wires attached, all you need is the switch. If you pay pump retail the switch is $63, so $50 ain't to bad, tho still kinda ridicules, but that's OEM for ya. The factory switch fits the hole and is labeled ATRAC. The hack is not needed as of about Oct. or Nov 07.

I've added switches in a couple other holes, but it takes some work to get one to fit and stay put. A mill is handy if you want install a switch in one of the covers. It's tight but can be done for a switch to operate a relay.

Re: '08 FJ ATRAC no locker

I could be completely wrong (an probably am about this), but that switch looks to me like the 2WD LSD switch (looking at the probable location). That would be the traction control w/o locking diff, wouldn't it?

The OP is saying he does NOT have an e-locker, so that switch theoretically should not do anything for him whether it's the LSD or ATRAC switch. Everything I have ever read has pointed to the fact that the RR locker is required for the ATRAC to be functional.

Actually, I think he's saying he's got a FJC without the locking rear diff option. And he's asking if he can just install the locking rear diff & ATRAC BUTTONS alone to get the use of both those options.

As I understand it, if your FJC is not equipped with the locking rear diff, then it does not have the ATRAC hardware installed from the factory. So I believe the answer to the question is no, you can't just install the two buttons on a non-locking rear diff equipped FJ to utilize the locking rear diff and ATRAC.

Re: '08 FJ ATRAC no locker

I do not have the locker and I do not want to install lockers. I would like to have ATRAC though. If there is more then just a switch, what does it take to get that?

If ATRAC controls the breaking system then why do I have to have the locker?

The ATRAC hardware & ECU system that controls each brake is NOT installed at the factory UNLESS that particular FJ has the locking rear diff option.

So your best solution to getting ATRAC is to sell that FJC and buy one with a rear locker. That's the long and short of it.
