I have the ARB bumper and the warn m8000 bumper. In order to reach the clutch lever in the ARB you need to rotate the clutch housing. I rotated it the wrong way before i put it in so i had to rotate it again once i had it in the bumper.
My problem is this: when i tried to put the 12 or so allen bolts back in, no matter what position i rotated it to, there was about a 1mm gap between the housing and the main body of the winch. I laid there for about an hour trying to get it to a position that match up perfectly. I couldn't, so i bolted it up the skid to deal with it another less frustrated day. I took off my skid today, and there was a little drip of what appeared to be gear oil on the bottom of the winch.
Can the housing be rotated if it is mounted? ( in other words does the winch have to be sticking straight up and down on the ground to bolt it back up correctly)
No it doesn't, but it is going to be harder to get it right. I rotated mine with it off the bumper, it was a little tough to get it right. I don't have the gap you are talking about, you need to correct it.
I had a similar issue while clocking my Warn Tabor 9K prior to installing it in my ARB bumper. After fiddling with it for about half an hour, I was able to make the parts fit correctly. This would be very difficult to do while the winch is still on the bumper. Also, make sure that you do not damage the gasket while doing it.

I called up the local 4xs4 shop to take it in. If i get time this week i will try and dismount it and fix it. I think it will need to have more gear oil added. If i can't fix it, the shop probably won't charge me as much since i can just hand it to them as opposed to having them take it out (a pain in the booty removing it from the ARB.)
Once the winch is removed from the bumper, you should be able to fix it yourself - just follow the instructions that came with the winch for clocking it. And yes, I would add some more gear grease to it just to be on the safe side.

I am taking it off tomorrow when i can have my cousin help me. If i do get it to bolt up correctly, how do i put more gear oil in there and how much???
When I clocked mine, I had a problem similar to yours and had to pull the gear cover away from the winch body just a little bit to make sure that the gears were aligned correctly. The gears had grease for lubrication not gear oil. I did not have to, but if you are concerned that you have lost some of the grease, you could add a bit through the opening you have now. Just make sure that you do not damage the gasket.

i just got off the phone with Warn's customer service. They concur with what you said about the grease. They said there is no type of gear oil, they just coat the gears with grease.
I said it looked like something had leaked out and she told me it probably just got warm, but no big deal. She said that i didn't have to worry about putting more grease back in. SO going to take it out and try and bolt it up and remove the gap that is currently in it.
Sucks for this past weekend. THere was a big 4x4 event this past weekend. It started at a dealerships Jeep test course ( out of all Jeeps on the lot, only an experienced driver in a stock Rubicon could pass this course, ONLY vehicles to not have any trouble were very lifted and 35's or bigger). But all the trail rides later that day and Sunday i couldn't attend. They all had deep muddy water sections and i didn't want to submerge the winch in muddy water with the gap it has. Thanks for your tips 88gspd.
