Curious about the winch being stolen.

Hiyas Folks:
A little comment from somebody at work got me to thinking. I just installed a warn front and rear bumper with a Warn Powerplant HD winch in the front on the FJ. One guy at work just off handedly said "people have been checking out that winch, got it bolted down tight?". Of course I do to spec. I was thinking about either tacking the bolt heads with a small spot weld on one side of each bolt. Or building up some epoxy to cover the bolt heads to make it alot tougher to remove it. As it sits the stock way. It doesn't seem to be that hard to unbolt it and cut the wires and replace them. Of course they wouldn't have the remote but could order one. With the right tools at hand I can take it back off in a couple of minutes. Anything to slow somebody down from removing it would be great.
Just curious as to what any others have done to make sure the winch they have stays with them.
Also thought about drilling holes next to the bolts and putting in some taper pins.
Any ideas on this subject?

Ziggy

not sure exactly how the nuts go on the bolts on them but if you have the right size, couldn't you incorporate a locking wheel stud like on your wheels? my 02

Re: Curiuos aout the winch being stolen.

Dang, that stinks it is that easy to un bolt. It takes me about an hour to unbolt my m8000 from the ARB and i know what i am doing.
I'd stick some razor wire in there so when the go to rotate the socket to unbolt they slice open their hand. Teach them a lesson and save your winch.
It's win win brother!

Re: Curiuos aout the winch being stolen.

Tack weld at least two of the bolts and keep it out of sight by putting a winch cover on it. Unfortunately, if the thieves are determined to steal it, they will find a way.

Also, please do yourself a favor and do not put anything in there that may injure a potential thief. If they cut themselves, they could get really mad and beat the hell out of your truck, or worse, sue you and -thanks to our justice system- win.

Re: Curiuos aout the winch being stolen.

When I still had my Warn winch bumper on my FJ, I used this on one of my winch mounting bolts (that come up from the bottom). I bought a couple of these years ago from Warn, but I'm not sure if they still sell them.

(These particular pics are from my FJ40.)

Re: Curious about the winch being stolen.

try bryce fasteners web site and check out the penta nut and penta bolt. both were designed for anti theft and prison security. i purchased several of the penta nuts for my lightforce lights. im sure you know nothing is theft proof but these may help.
