I recently installed a warn winch in a Lucrum mount but have a bit of a problem. I do not want to mount the control box on the outside of the vehilce and want to put it under the hood. The problem with this is that the cables are all of about 12" and do not realy reach from under the hood out to the winch.
So, can I just replace the winch wires with battery cable wires from the auto parts store? If so will it hurt if the cables are 4 ga instead of 2 ga? All I seem to be able to find is 4 ga cables.
Thanks for any help.

An idea: Mine is still in the bumper, on top of the winch. I have to open the hood and reach down in between the grill and radiator to plug it in I'm quite sloppy with wiring so it was my best choice.

PM Jasim84 for some pictures of his setup. When we did his Lucrum bumper and winch installation we put the control box right next to the winch in the bumper's tray and then removed to plug from the control box cover and mounted it into the front of the bumper on the driver's side. Nice and clean. Some custum battery cables were needed. Most auto parts stores sell 2ga wire by the foot (from a spool in the back, $1.80 a foot here) and the fittings for the ends should be off the shelf.

I like the idea of moving the plug from the control box to somewhere more convenient. I've seen one post linking over to a Tacoma (if I remember correctly) forum where the plug was actually mounted inside the cab. Does anyone see a problem with that? I'm planning to add the WARN Power Cut-off kit, so I'm not overly concerned about someone tampering with my winch from the control box plug...but for convenience, seems like having the plug in the cab would be nice. Assuming the control box will be under the hood, then you don't have the remote wire running out from under the hood when winching ...looking for comments on this from experienced 'winchers'. Control plug in the cab or sticking out of the grill???

Experienced winchers will tell you that the hood should be completely open (for obvious safety reasons) during winch operations. So, having the remote cable running out out the engine compartment shouldn't be an issue at all.

Dom,
Would you like a fairlead? I have an unused Warn roller one for shipping cost...
