Winch Control box under hood

Anyone relocated the control box under the hood? I was thinking beside the battery on top of that electrical box (where the hood sort of has a cavity). Someone I spoke to said it fit there.

I suppose I'll have to lengthen the cables with 3-4AWG and just connect the two female terminals somehow?

Anyone have some opinions?

I did. Its on the passenger side fender well. It works great and stay cleaner and dryer. I just bought some 3 and 4 foot cables and hooked it up. Simple to do. I will see if I can find a picture for you

Cool - I think that will be my project today. Would like to see a pic if you have it. Thanks!

Re: Winch Control box under hood

I've just finished installing mine. The Superwinch box too big and awkward shape so had to use a junction box but other makes it should be easier. I relocated to a bracket I had made with the solenoid on the end of the battery and the cut out to the front. Cables are all about 2m long now to reach.

There are other options but this is the only space I had, having used the fender wall for the split charge relay and solar controller.

Re: Winch Control box under hood

Thanks for posting pics- looks tight!

Took the Control box cover off, connected longer cables, mounted box and ran the cables to the winch and battery,.... etc and was STILL able to get a Christmas Tree.

I just need to reconnect cables to the winch and wire tie/clean it up. There were some areas where I was worried about rubbing so I took a portion of a Mountain Bike Tube and wire tied it around the cable for extra protection.

I'll post pics when I get it squared away.

Re: Winch Control box under hood

I relocated mine as well. To the passenger side fender. I used 1awg wire bought in bulk length off eBay (welding cable). Also upgraded the finicky Warn solenoids to a Superwinch solid state contactor.

I also upgraded my Engo solenoids to a Superwinch/Albright solid state contactor when I installed my bumper and winch a few years ago. Mounted the plug-in next to radiator and the contactor next to 2nd battery on the Dirty Deeds battery frame.

Got to give props to Snake Eater: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/sup...tactor.767175/ for doing the homework..
