I would be worried about stopping up the cat converters on the truck. Cats don't like a lot of idle time. And they will stop up and cost you lots of money. You are just waiting to replace them when you Idle all night.
I really don't think that is much of an issue. The difference is the MAF Mass Air Sensor
This will keep the air fuel ratio correct. I believe you may be thinking of a non or earlier version fuel injection that probably is not refined enough to keeping it from loading fuel. Since the cats have sensors that help with the air/fuel ratio it will lean out the mix to keep the cats from loading up with fuel when it starts reading rich at the cat sensors. I would think you get little wear from idling all night. Although, engine hours are different than miles recorded. If you are idling your engine a lot , you will have more engine hours than normal, which could lead to lower life. But that's probably minimal . If its hot, other systems may take more of a toll in the engine area, since the air flow is not as good as when you are actually rolling.

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

As for engine oiling,, take a cam cover off and idling an engine.. Oil everywhere! So they oil just fine..

As for the cat,,, like most posted,, the ECM will control the mixture to the point that the cat will be happy..

According to Toyota (both service department AND the owners manual) extended idling is bad for the cats.

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

I drove to the coast and arrived too late to set up my campsite and didnt want to fight the 20 mile an hour breeze and the mosquitoes, believe me these mosquitoes can conquer that breeze. Also it was a 88 degree night so i slept(sorta) in the fj, I let the car idle all night long and into the early morning for a total of about 12 hours. and i noted that it used approx 1/2 tank of gas with the a/c running the temp never rose above 180 or so.
Im such a gas Pig lol
