Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

So know chance of overheating? That would be my only concern... probably not so much an issue on newer vehicles. I was always told it is bad to idle a vehicle for any long length of time.

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

That's probably because of the cooling system unless the engine has a flawed oiling system.

The FJ uses a clutch fan and you're pretty much bulletproof unless the spring in the clutch goes to bed. Electric fans are as good as their electronics. Hot and cold do funny things with lots of things

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

I had mine idle for about 4 hours once when I was stuck in the snow and digging myself out. The gas gauge barely dropped, and the temp. stayed consistant.

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

If you're that concerned about overheating (I wouldnt be) you could always open the hood.

Several members here have slept in theirs overnight with either the A/C or heat going.

The FJ has a very large (surface area), efficient radiator (as long as it's not coated with mud). Chances of it overheating are slim unless the fan clutch fails.

Re: How long would the FJ idle for?

Hmm, good thread. I've always wondered about that (plan on using mine to run tire warmers at the racetrack; it's cheaper and quieter than a generator)
