Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

Hey guys, I'm trying to install the third outside nut (for those who have done the install I'm sure you know which one I mean) for the ARB fog light housings and don't see how you can get thet the nut started and tightened. I know that some just don't attach that nut...but for those who have how did you do it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

I'd be interested to know this answer myself---I installed the bumper on Saturday and spent the whole day marveling at the superior design and engineering of the ARB bumper. At least until I got to "the third nut". Damnit.

While we're on the subject...do you actually install the light itself with only that little rubber thingie on the tip of the screw? I thought about screwing a wooden dowel onto it or something. I mean are the lights (markers--not fogs) supposed to have play in them?

Re: Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

The answer is long skinny fingers and patience. A lot of people end up just tightening down the other two and leaving that one nut off.

Notorious, the marker light screws go through the metal bracket and lock in that way. The rubber is basically just there to keep the sharp screw from poking anything important and to help lower the likelihood of rust/corrosion on the screw itself. I don't have any play in mine at all.

Macleod,

My metal plate has holes already drilled---the light just drops in place and is sandwiched between the metal plate and the plastic bezel. Could I have done something wrong?

I couldn't get to it either. The only way i see this working, and the way it should probably be, is to have you put the lights in BEFORE you put the bumper on....I don't see any reason why you couldn't do this and it would save you some time on your back cranking on bolts.

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong.

I need to change a marker light bulb tonight anyway, so when I do, I'll take pics of what mine looks like and what the bracket looks like. I remember my bracket had the holes drilled too, but they were small enough that the self-tapping screws locked right in.

I have to change my fog light and marker light also... any pics would be really apprecaited. I took a quick look under there and it does not look "easy"... or is it? Just a metal plate, then the light pops off? Surely it can't be that hard...

Re: Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

well I couldn't find my spare bulb tonight, so I'll do it for you guys tomorrow and try to take pics step by step. It's really not hard, just time consuming.

Re: Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

I tried a while back and could not get it either so I called the tech line at ARB USA and they said it was a crappy design and no one can get it back on once they take it off. They said none of the guys there had that nut on any of their bumpers...lol

Re: Trick to install ARB Fog Light Housing??

I keep the nut right in front of the the bolt than push the unit into it, takes time and patience but it is still a pain two bolts is sufficient enough I think.
