Wiring Winch

I just installed a Road Armor bumper with a Warn M8000 winch. Does anyone know the best way to run wires from the winch to the battery? I have never done this before. Any input would be great. Thank You.

Re: Wiring Winch

On my ARB I followed the path of least resistance and avoided sharp bends on the sheet metal and used plenty of tie-wraps. I also check the cable for any chaffing after wheeling.

Re: Wiring Winch

I agree with Hondo. The path of least resistance. Best to route positive and negative wires over to the right and up through the right side round holes. I believe just below the right side light. Use as many zip ties as you need to secure the lines. Some rubber tubing is advisable where the lines go through the holes. Also remember when you make your connections, the negative connection must be made to the negative battery terminal and not to ground on the body. Of course positive connection to the positive battery terminal.

Re: Wiring Winch

As Cogen Man has said, tie wrap split rubber tubing around each conductor as you pass through the holes to the right of the radiator into the engine compartment. You definitely don't want them to rub through the insulation there as it would be a dead short!

Re: Wiring Winch

Do you mount the motor ground cable for the winch to the winch or anywhere that is metal?

This might help ya.

The motor ground cable goes from the control box to a ground bolt under the winch motor. Be sure to use a little di-electric grease on all your connections.
