Disabling the fan

I know the FJ uses a clutch fan, and was wondering if anybody has given thought to how to disable it for water crossings etc. I am guessing that it is not possible, or somebody on here would have done it.

From what I understand, the clutch has a bimetallic thermostat that kicks it on at a certain temperature. Is that thermostat accessible, and could it be fooled temporarily into thinking things are cooler than they really are?

Just wondering....

Re: Disabling the fan

The only way you'll get around it, is by removing it and replacing it with n electric.

X2

Those darn fans eat up alot HP. This is why race engines have electric waterpumps and electric fans...

Thought about this mod as well.

That is what I thought. I just wondered if there was a way to jerry rig the existing one.

Re: Disabling the fan

nope it just keeps on spinning as long as the belt turns. no reason to worry about water though, thats why its a clutch fan, you can stop it with water or your hand if ya dont mind a bit of pain, then it starts right on spinnin again.

X2, there's plenty of slippage when it's not fully engaged.
