Since it seems that we have a number of threads going about whether or not to go back to Ouray, I thought I'd start a suggestion thread for those that maybe want to change it up for next year.
These are all places that can handle the number of trucks we had at Ouray...there are towns near by, they have hotels and what not nearby, as well as places to camp or rent cabins. All are family friendly, and each one has a different style of wheeling.
Don't get me wrong, Ouray was great and the organizers did a great job, but I am one that believes that if this is truely to be a national event, then it need to move around the country so that folks that can't drive 3 days to get to Ouray can have their chance at coming.

I think for you it's down here...I am in the south, brotha! And you are welcome anytime, but you better bring that rig so we can show you how it's done southern-style!
Don't worry, we don't expect for you to actually be DOING anything about this yet! It's just excited babbling because we are so thrilled with how well the event went and how much we are looking forward to the next one!

Katemcy is awesome and has a good range of trails (easy to holy sh!t). I would love to welcome everyone to Texas.
I think some of the original thought around Ouray was related to it's somewhat central location, how most of the trails are accessible for stockers, and the fact that it is awesome country. That being said, moving it around is a good thing but, makes it hard to keep the same core group of folks organizing it, everything starts from scratch, and new relationships with local businesses/municipalities need to be forged.
I was not there but, Ouray for a second year in a row is not a bad thing.....
If you think about the successful "rallies" for bikers, specific vehichles, etc. most of them are successful because they maintain the same location, the same weekend every year and people know what to expect and how to plan. That is my .02.
But I wasn't there and don't know how it went in Ouray.

This was brought in The Lemonade Room with Seth & Tim about an east coast location next year or even a more central location by us Southeastern members.
With that being said, I wouldn't have a problem going back to Ouray for Summit II. The Summit team has made connections, bonds & relationships with the people of Ouray that made Summit I a success for all of us.
