good point, suggestions?
147.510? I use that one all the time here in CA. As long as the nearby repeaters don't cover that frequency. It looks like they don't.

so CCARC (Colorado Council of Amatuer Radio) starts that "section" of simplex at 147.42 and maintaining the 15kHz spacing we would have to use 147.555, not a big deal just wanted to point it out

Also i have a icom 2100h hanging out at the house i was thinking of setting up a digipeter for aprs, i didn't see any in the area. A simplex repeater would be easy to setup, eithier way i have a 2m avaible for use if need be.

Ham Question: Didn't the FCC lower the qualifications for 10 meter? Will there be any support for those frequencies (unless the repeaters listed above cover 10 meter; pardon my Ham ignorance)?
The answer to this question is yes they have opened it up for amateur radio but you need to be a General Class or better to work the frequencies.

Now I want to go buy my new rig:
Yaesu FT-8900R, Yaesu FT8900 Amateur Transceiver
IMHO... save the $$$ and avoid the 8900 and go with the 8800. THere is not a good enough quadband antenna to give you any decen performance with the 8900 unless you run a coule of antennas and switch back and forth.

i added to the OP that the General Simplex Freq for the summit be

General Simplex for the Summit: 447.150

if there are better suggestions let me know...

Sounds good to me as long as everyone has dual band radios. We might want to pick a 2m simplex instead.

Great point Froggo. Most amateur radio operators don't run dualbanders and have straight 2M rigs in their trucks. 2M will reach further and bounce off the mountains better than 70cm. 70cm needs no obstructions to be affective.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have portable packages as Froggo has mentioned of another 8800 with a power supply and an FT-897 with battery or power supply for a command center if we need it. Comms can't be more important in events like this. I am currently putting the communications & emergency response package together for the 2008 Calico Clean Up on President's Day weekend and am kind of tied up with the logistics and coordination of that right now. When the Calico event is over I would be more than willing to assist you all with the communications logistics for the Summit.
