Okay guys, I already own the FRS radios that I can bring to the Summit.
I am willing to buy a CB and install it or buy an amateur radio and install it. Don't want to buy both so only one will do.
Now my question: Since I have no friends that have either and will only use when the radio when in trouble or to talk with other four-wheelers on the trail, which should I buy?
Thanks,
M

I'd say study for the HAM test and get your Technician license. A good 2 meter Radio can travel much further then a CB in times of trouble for help. And, you can link up to other repeaters and talk all over the world if you like. The test cost maybe $20.00 and a good 2 meter radio is about $140.00. hth
Thanks Frogeye, I don't mind the test or the cost of the amateur radio but didn't want to buy the wrong type of radio and only talk with people 100 miles away rather than folks on the same trail.
Is it your opinion that more and more trail runners are using amateur radio and fewer using CB? I am trying to think Summit and also Beyond Summit.
I hope to hear from a few others as well but I think what you said is correct.
