As we move closer to the Summit, we should begin discussing what the town of Ouray and the Summit are like to any newcomers.
Most importantly, I want to address respect at the Summit. Last year could not have been a better crowd. We will have more people this year, and it's important to understand what type of event we have established, so I'm just setting the precedent early.
Ouray is a small town, and we have gone to great lengths to become friendly with the police, mayor, and chamber of commerce. It's important for us to maintain that level of respect that we have earned. We achieved this last year because everyone was very responsible for the most part, and did their part to show a good face for the Summit. Remember that if you're there and you're in an FJ with Summit stickers, you are representing the entire event. Be alert for speed limits and know that your actions will reflect back on everyone at the event.
In terms of the event, please thank our sponsors. They are all contributing a lot to make this event happen and we appreciate their level of involvement. Please remember that you are surrounded by FJ's that are everyone's personal blood, sweat and tears. People have worked hard to buy these trucks, and even harder to mod them (take me for example). Please only touch other peoples' trucks if you have asked the owner permission. This should go without saying, but it's an important thing to note.
This is not my finest written document - but I am making this thread just to set expectations and let people know what sort of event they are entering. Thanks

Another note would be that as far as alcohol consumption, what I saw last year was in moderation and acceptable. Even the Chief of police hoisted a couple. But the last thing we need is a DUI or public intoxication.

absolutely. It's a small town, and there is absolutely no need to drive after you drink if you choose to drink...

Another suggestion (again, that shouldn't need to be said):
Don't litter, and if you're a smoker, don't toss butts. Treat Ouray like it's a national park, and leave it as clean as you arrived (or better)...
Please! And around the Best Western too where all the activities are. Last year in the morning, I was picking up little bits of trash all around the grassy area....pick up after yourself!!!
Well said Jason and others! Ouray is awesome and we want to be welcome there!
I wasnt apart of last year but plan to make the trip this july and want to thank everyone whos putting this on. From what i hear Ouray is a small town and i agree its important to keep it clean and better then when we came in.

I'd also like to point out that although we'll be the only offroading group there this time (unlike last time), there will still be people on the trails. Photographers, hikers, locals, visitors, etc. Please be respectful to those on foot, who are working a lot harder than us to get up the trails! Slow down, try not to kick up dust and give them lots of room. I know last year we had photographers lying down near streams who were hard to see, and several times I'm sure someone got closer than the photographer would have liked. So please be polite and imagine if you were on a 10 hour hike up to 14,000 feet, you probably wouldn't need any more dust in your lungs.

Very good point, Jason.
With so many nice FJ's converged in one area, do what you can to keep your eye on other people's trucks as well (i.e., "neighborhood block watch").
And, since the Best Western is the primary staging area for the majority of the Summit's activities, please use extreme caution when driving through the parking lot. Not only will there be a sizable congregation of FJ's parked everywhere that one might (heaven forbid ) accidentally back into, but there will also be a lot of children walking about that might otherwise not be aware of the traffic flow.
