off-road classes

ok so i got my fj about 2 weeks ago and i live in los angeles, so off-roading really isnt a part of my lifestyle, yet. i have never even been off-roading, and before i go out by myself and wreck my new car are there classes somewhere i can take to master this art? how did everyone else figure everything out? im assuming most people just grew up around the sport but clue me in as to what i should do.
thanks.

Re: off-road classes

Check and see if there are any local off road club in your area. Sometimes some of the larger clubs will offer some classes. I've also seen classes offered by some of the larger suspension companies such as Super Lift and Rancho, but I'm guessing they are quite expensive. Best way to learn is to go with someone who knows what they are doing and is willing to teach you what you need to know. Also if you get with somebody with some good experience they can tell you what you will need to bring as well. I'm sure there are some people in your area that would be willing to hook up with you for a weekend of wheeling. I’m sure there are lots of clubs in your area and they are usually more than willing to take new people with them. If you show up and they are all on 38+ inch tires, it might be a good idea just to ride with somebody for that trip…

Re: off-road classes

Just ran across a site that may help you out. You will have to message me to get it though. I'm a newbie and haven't had enough posts too post a url.
I ordered topo maps and software. Noticed books and videos for newbies.
Well made operation.
My FJ is on order. Still!
