Biggest Mickey Thompson's without lifting?

I want to put a lift on it and throw some 33 12.50's on it, but Im going remote with no repair shops, so I dont want to stress the vehichle with the lift.

So what's the biggest Mickey Thompson I can put on without lifiting it?

I dont want any rubbing either. I dont mind shaving the mounts though.

Thanks guys.

From what my shop told me, you coudl be ok with 33's triming the bosy mounts. What will happen is that with 33's and no lift your performance offroading probably won't be great. Check the daystar kit, thats what I have and many people on the forum too

Re: Biggest Mickey Thompson's without lifting?

ok. I will be in a place where there's no repair for this ride. So I need it to be really reliable, but I want to change out the stock tires.

If I go with a 3" lift, and I going to put a lot more wear and tear on it?

Not from what I have been told.
Use the search buttom, and look for 3" lift and ask those who have it. They will probably be better to answer your questions. I do not do too much wheeling myself.

Re: Biggest Mickey Thompson's without lifting?

Not sure what you have been told before but most "professionals" feel that keeping the lift under 3" will NOT change the geometry of CV joints enough to increase the wear/stress on them. This is based on history of other Toyota vehicles based on the same or similar platforms.

Personally, I would put a lift on AND change tires if you have the money. However, I'm not a big fan of "spacer" lifts and would recommend reading the information in the "suspension" section of the forums. There is a thread which provides great detail as to the reasons why one may chose one lift over another. It really comes down to money. I personally chose the OME kits due to the cost vs benefit ratio being the best IMHO.

THe largest tire to fit without a lift or mods is what you have - 265/70r17.
I've ranted in other threads about not cutting the body mounts, and also about the benefits to a suspension system as opposed to a spacer lift kit.
But either way, for 33" tires, you need the correct offset wheel and 2.5" of lift in the front. Different tires of the identical size are not necessarily the same actual diameter, so some 33" tires will still rub with the lift installed (that's why some are cutting body mounts). Fit check the tire / rim combo before you commit, or go to an experienced shop that has dealt with FJCs.
