Winch basics for newbs.

Any good sites/posts to go for winch & winching basics?

Need to learn about winches, how they work, care, feeding and use. Never had a winch of any sort before. Write ups on the extras too, whatever they may be?

Thanks

Here are some sites with info that I have found useful:

Pirate4x4.Com - Extreme Four Wheel Drive

4-Wheeling "How-To"

If you are using synthetic line, print some of these .PDF files and keep in your vehicle so you can do field repairs easily: Samson-The Strongest Name in Rope, Splicing Instructions

Other stuff: Everyone Was A Noob Once | Off Road Adventure

Now if you want to buy some stuff; books DVDs etc, my friend has purchased from here a few times: Best Selling 4X4, 4WD, Offroad, OHV and Jeep Handbooks, Trail Guides, Trail Maps, Videos and GPS. I am cheap so I am content just reading the free stuff on-line for now.

Bill Burke offers a 1 day recovery class. I Highly recommend this. You can read about my experience in this class at: Winching and Wisdom – A Day with Bill Burke | My Toyota FJ Cruiser

Re: Winch basics for newbs.

Here's a couple of threads you could try:

All you ever wanted to know about Winches and Beer

How to Choose A Winch

Recently, I have heard good things about Titan winches. You can search them on the forum to find out about them.

Good Luck!
