weird switch

I found a switch, matchbox size installed beside the hood release under the dash. It's a momentary push switch. I traced the wires and it went to the ignition and up the pillar (windshield).

The push box is reversed, meaning the push switch is at the back and not exposed.

I tried pushing it with or without the ignition on but nothing happens. There are 2 fuses attached to it located inside the fuse box.

I talked to the previous owner. He did not install any after market stuff. (He bought the FJ brand new) The wiring look profesionally done.

Any ides?

Doesn't Toyota provide an in-dash switch for that, though? My '98 Taco MT has one in the dash.

It almost sounds like it's some kind of cancel switch, such as disarming or deactivating the either the OEM or aftermarket alarm system.

A picture would definitely help...

Re: weird switch

Could it possibly be a fuel shut-off in case of accident?

Yes they do, it is std on the manual transmission and is located just to the left of the steering column.

Re: weird switch

I'll post a pic later. It's still a big puzzle to me. A black and red wire, like a speaker wire went up to the ceiling thru the pillar. I checked the liner and I didn't find anything unusual, just my sunroof.

I thought it was some sort of fuel shutoff. I removed the fuses and still nothing happened.

BTW, I have an auto tranny.

b/c it is definitely aftermarket, maybe installed by the dealer, but it is not a factory option.
