Gas Gauge Light

How much further can one drive once the gas gauge light comes on? I realize it depends upon whether you are driving city or highway or if you drive hard or normal etc. I would just like an approximation. I ask this question because I am on my first tank of gas and the light came on last night as I was parking it.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

Once the light comes on you have about 20L of fuel left, which should take you about another 100 km safely.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

The farthest I've driven mine after the idiot light came on (so far) was 42 miles, and I still put only 18 gallons in brim full. But if I were you, I wouldn't depend on someone else's figures, yours might be different.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

Same here. I did around 45 miles and had an 18 gallon fill up. But I won't try that again.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

I think by spec, the light comes on with 3gal left in the tank. I haven't had a reason to tempt it yet. But if I'm going places with no gas stations, I will take a pretty heft jerry can along.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

Thanks everyone. I went out and filled up right away this afternoon and I could only get in 58 L. That leaves me with 14 L when the light comes on. That is good to know.

Update - as promised in a previous (similar) thread, I ran my FJC out of gas just to see how far it would go. 56 miles after the light came on; 348 miles for the tank. AT, 10-15% Ethanol, 93 Octane, 285/70/17 tires, mix of highway and city driving. Put a gallon of gas in, drove 6 miles to a gas station, and put 18.5 gallons in, so I guess it really will hold 19 gallons when empty.

Re: Gas Gauge Light

I bought my Fj last friday and had my light come so I did a search for low fuel light and the general consensus on another thread was that the light comes on with just 4 gallons left in the tank. I traveled about three miles after my light came on and it took 15 gallons to fill it up.
