Been reading people use last digits of VIN to perform chronological comparisons of their FJ builds.
So I was checking out the VINS on new FJ's on a dealer's lot and one's 28721, another is 31430... sounds about right.
And then there's this one: 6270.
I dunno the mileage on it... but should I assume this a "dealer / dealer's wife drove it for a while" type thing, cause how on earth could an FJ sit around taking up space since April... there's nothing else I should know about the VIN number is there?
I have concluded that the only FJ Cruisers with VIN under 70001000 were pre-production for government testing and early trade shows. These were not available to the general public for purchase. The lowest VIN I am aware of is 70001110, which is a vehicle the Hutchinson Kansas dealer uses as a demo for potential customers. It is a Voodoo blue with a CQ and UP package, also, it may have the side air curtains - can't remember. Accessories include a roof rack, running boards, and tow hitch.
My FJ is supposed to be delivered this week, or next, and it will have a VIN of 70043941 and production date of September 2006. Clearly it appears that Toyota will be exceeding their production estimate (released in the 1st Quarter 2006) of 46,000 vehicles for the first year. Obviously this vehicle has been a strong success for Toyota, beyond it's initial expectations.

You may be right or we may have a "shortage" of FJ's for a month or so.
Congrats on your impending delivery; I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Yeah, that's what I decided after I started the VIN/locale thread. None were posted with a VIN under 1K.

OK, you win the thread - "How many posts before you got your FJ?" Congrats, and make sure you post an "air-logue" accounting of your initial meet-and-greet of your FJ. Pics will be required.

Hi Sandi, I'll have to borrow someone's digital camera (still have an Olympus OM-1 with different lenses collecting dust in the closest). My daughter should be able to help with the computer upload issue once the pictures are taken. Oh, by the way, no one is as talented as Monsieur Air when it comes to creativity in writing (with pics).

quite possibly, since they are able to meet that "unforseen" demand rate, it is possible that the low number of only 40,000 units until 2008s come out (about a year from now in Oct of 2007) might have been a bit of misinformation in order to create additional demand. As smart as Toyota is about such things, I find it hard to believe that they could have been a year off in the demand rate with all of the market sampling that they did. This might have been a type of chess game where they have been constantly able to maintain control.
